Lesson here is:
Lighter higher horsepowered car is FASTER than heavier car with less horsepower. COOOOOOL!

But motortrend said the zl1 was a better car because it had more comfy seats. Who needs performance or being able to see out of a car when you have comfy seats!!!!!!!!!

What's awsome is watching all the other boards and the how the shit talking turned into a few respecting and the others being all butt hurt. It's a good time for Ford and no one can deny that but it's been a long time coming as well.

Still cannot get over how ugly the engine bay is on that ZL1......compared to the Ford. Shitty plastic engine cover looks like crap

Do WHAT? I don't read Motor Trend due to them not EVER knowing what the F*ck they are talking about, but this is them hitting a new all time low! LINK?

<<< lazy.

Google: motor trend zl1. Pretty sure its the first link. Some Britt sounding fuck-o doing the review. The last 45 seconds or so he starts saying the synopsis of the review.

Thought the 2013 was supposed to get deep into the 10's?? Both cars running 12's on the first pass is pretty pathetic.

They run 10s with a tire and tune... doesnt get much better than that. With stock POS 285 tires on i dont see them dipping too far below 11.5s even with a good driver. Just too much power to put down.

^^^yep, suprised the car didn't loop around under full power.

As long as you leave the traction control on the Shelby turned on your are ok, turn it off on stock tires, and it will show you both guard rails. Been there..:bigthumb:

You know that's right!

Track accident=No insurance coverage=No car+lots of payments left (usually).

I'm pretty impressed with both cars, Shelby is a BMF in a straight line for sure. All the magazines say the ZL1 is pretty awesome in turns and under braking. It'd be cool if the ZL1 went faster than my bolt on'd GTO, some of the times I've seen in those cars is not too impressive.

I dont understand why the ballers that can afford the cars dont buy a good set of drag wheels.

I can't wait to own a 13 gt500 in another year or less. These cars are absolutely outstanding. They have unlimited potential and as it has already been said have the hold on the market right now. I may bleed Ford blue but I dont care who you are, the gt500 outdoes the ZL1 in everyway.

Actually... This chart pretty much says alot, and suprised most of the zl1 guys. Its just the results of the magazine tests... that all said the zl1 was better because it was more comfy lol.

I too would buy the shelby. Unless of course the zl1 looses weight, has more power, less blind spots, and wasnt in the corvette price range. Other than that I would lol. But of course for the price i would be responsible and buy a ctsv for the family

You should have gave them the STD corrected version of that chart with smoothing set to 5.

I havent seen those charts before but I find those road course numbers somewhat suspect for one reason. The numbers for the GT500 are better than the Laguna Seca Mustang which is a purpose built Road Course car. Did you copy and paste that from someone who created that spreadsheet or did you verify those numbers personally?

Historically, high horsepowered cars with Live axle don't do as well on a road course as a somewhat comparable IRS-cars for obvious reasons. I also think this is why Ford has never released their Nurburgring times for the GT500.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-GT500, I love the car. I'm just more about facts that make 1 car better than another on all levels. Straightline is pretty simple (chassis weight+horsepower). Getting it to perform on all levels takes more engineering. :cheers

Those were 4 of the first "unbaiased" reviews put into a chart. If you watch them all on youtube they all say that for a live axle it handles pretty well. Im sure it makes plenty of time up in the straights, but if it couldnt take the twistys too it wouldnt even be close. I also belive in 1 of the reviews they didnt swap the brake fluid out before they tracked the car which is recomended by ford, and got some serious brake fade from the fluid heating up, and gave it a hard time because of that.

GreebeanZ28
08-23-2012, 07:27 PM
Swap brake fluid? What kinda racecar nonsense is that? Here, pay for all these extra diff coolers and adjustable shocks and all, but youre going to have to do the brakes yourself. What a craptastic way to cheap on on a 65 grand car. Road & track reported fade in one lap, motor trend's Randy Pobst said it didnt feel like it was going to stop. What the hell.

ForceFed4g63
08-23-2012, 07:49 PM
If all you have to do for it to perform like a beast on the track is swap out the brake fluid I'd still take it over the ZL1 lol.

Either way, I can find better ways to spend $70k.

It would be very hard for me to choose between a GT500 and Z06 in that price range.

All im saying is that after forking out an extra 2,950 for the oil, trans and diff coolers on top of the 3,495 for the adjstabke shocks, cool wheels and torsen diff, that the brake fluid isnt up to par? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Zl1 doesnt have any of these brake issues. Then again its already coming slower into the turn. Lol.

Why you would choose either of these heavy ass heat soak prone blower cars as road course cars is beyond my grasp in the first place.

03SVTCOBRA
08-23-2012, 08:44 PM
Most anyone whos going to track these cars will change the brake fluid... even the zl1 guys did in the tests, not sure why ford dropped the ball in the mag reviews. Theres a big difference in regular driving and track driving with the brake fluid heating up. The gt500 has very good brakes...

This lol, zl1 guys cant even get down the 1/4 mile before it sucks the power out and the gt500s are probably the same. I bet they pull so much timing on a track its not even funny.

Because now days everyone thinks their the stig and has a road course in their back yard.

I think were all trying to be more British because every review compares some American car to a British or German exotic.

Everyone has forgot that a muscle car should need walls and bumper rails to turn left or right but who gave a shit it was a muscle car.

Thats the first I've seen that vid but is exactly what Ryan and I were talking about. The IRS is just a better suited piece of the puzzle for things that are trying to do more than go straight.

It's pretty apparent that right now Chevrolet is doing a few things with the Camaro.

New COPO= Drag Car
New 1LE= Road Course Car (talk is it set some crazy record at VIR this month)
ZL1= All around street/track car
SS= standard entry level turd.

Thanks for the vids Chris, good stuff. .5 is a tight race for a 1 lap sprint between both of those cars.

Randy definitely is no slouch and Laguna Seca is not for the weak of heart drivers either. He is able to wring both cars out and give honest feedback, no doubt.
