Getting tired of running the same damn times with this turbo. New cam/Intake/TB same MPH and ET. More boost/nitrous, same ET/MPH. The turbine side of my turbo is only 67mm .96/AR & is killing this truck. I knew it was but still did all that work.

Badbob, either sell me that large frame PTE 80 or you will force me into a night of drinking and buying a BW S475, S480 and or lastly a S483. All the above will have a fatty turbine side /4" exhaust as i'm game on with spooling with nitrous.

Last Friday...

Call work turbo and go with the borg warner 83 or 87 mm SX3 option pretty sure they offer compressor sides all the way up to 88mm with ETT technology and racecovers. There already T4 so you wont have to change the flange would only have to run the larger 4 inch downpipe, also the 4.8 should light it off fine on the foot brake without nitrous and really light it off if you spray it. They cost about 1500 dollars but you can recover some of that by selling the 76mm.

Yeah I been eye'in the sx3/bullseye stuff. The nitrous seems line a "on" switch for spool, so i'm starting to feel better about going big on the exhaust side.

Lol, remember what happened the last time you drank too much and had access to the interwebz..."oh shit, apparently I bought a block last night."

heck, it might pick up spool with a bigger exhaust side if its not choked off...

Anyone else notice how the truck rocked back and forth when the bov opened and closed? Thats awesome!

Drinking is my enabler. Like hooking up with a ugly chick because she has a good body. Or putting a bigger turbo on the same stock motor. Rarely is it a "good" idea.

Rob, you going this Friday?

Foose04

I may go out and watch man, but the turbo is likely coming off tomorrow to make room for the a new setup. I'm all done with this one.

I see. Sorry I haven't figured out what I'm going to do. Just been trying to get it back together. It may be a little before I decide to get rid of this one

Not a problem man. I'm pretty set on what I want. Just trying to decide on turbine A/R and compressor size. Been going nuts the last few days reading up on the options.

I will need some help getting this welded in along with a new muffler. This is a direct fit so couldn'd pass it up.

That's def on the larger scale my friend. You can get away more with cubes and a 1000 pound lighter ride. I still need usuable power in the 3.5k-4.5k area.

SX3 is my vote they offer the turbines in the right size for that 4.8 or the 5.3 run the 83mm option and 1.25 A/R and that motor will scream, or run the 87mm with the 1.0 A/R and that will give you growing room for the 5.3 when this motor cant take anymore, then just swap to larger exhuast housing and be on your way. Another option is the PTE 76/75. From what I gather they cost the same as the bullseye units and will get you close to another 150 rwhp. IMO the bullseye units will get you further though and for some reason precisions turbos are getting a lot of bad rep lately its all over LS1tech and yellow bullet. I did some really extensive research on this 4 months ago when I pulled the trigger on the S480 on my car the same one Lorenz speced but I can get away with it due to my 6.0 displacement, it had an issue then got upgraded to S482 because the compressor housing needed to be machined.

We are the same sheet of music.

I'm going to call these guys tomorrow on this sexy mo'fo. It's rated at 1150HP or 115lb, nearly S480 flow but lighter then the standard 475. Should be a badass wheel.

It comes with the 1.10/83mm. Thats what I'm stuck on, it may work better on the 4.8L with that 1.10, then later I can swap to a 1.25 for the 5.3L. Or I can just go 1.25 from the start if they will sell it to me that way.

Tough call.

Rob how much boost were you running at your peak?

Foose04
09-26-2012, 09:56 AM
Around 22.

ForceFed4g63
09-26-2012, 09:59 AM
That's weird that you weren't getting any more power from turning up the boost, that turbo is just starting to wake up at 22.

Foose04

The turbine wheel is the problem. I'd be willing to bet I have over 3 to 1 exhaust to boost pressure. Maybe 3.5

Run the 1.10 for now, then when the 5.3 goes in swap to the 1.25 and sell the 1.10 you will probably be out 150.00 but there is no telling how long the 4.8 is going to last it could hang in there for another few years.

Next question is what stall speed? Does that 80 have a break?

Foose04
09-26-2012, 12:30 PM
After talking with Lebbet over at BoostLab this morning, I decided to give that BL475R a try. Should be shipped Friday and went with the 1.10 A/R. They have it in stock but I was lazy and want the shinny polished one, because well I like shinny things.

I can stall any where from 3000-3600 on the step, but my rated stall speed is 2800-3000. Truck seems to leave well around the 3300 and using the 80's trans-brake.

Dat sumbitch gonna move with the new turbo. Will it still take the n20 to spool it as well?

TurboWS6

It shouldn't need it to spool. But it will help it 60ft.

They gave me a small military discount, but with addition of the polish job damage came in around 1700. The current magnum is showing some wear though with some in and out play and my warranty claim was accepted. So ill be sending it in and selling it once it's back. It was 1050 new, so I hope to snag 700 or so for it. That will help some, but mainly the power adder for the next block is taken care of and I have a better shot at 9's with the 4.8L.

Also happy to get my current 3" DP / 2.5" in one spot removed to for that 4". This rig should get it now. Just need a 6.4x and 108ish to meet my 9 second goal.

I like the cooling effects of the wet shot. Last time out the 65 shot dropped me to 50 degrees AIT and got up to 70 at the end of the 8th. I'll likely leave it on, but go back to the 35 and see how it does.

Ok, trying to piece together a new 5.5" aluminum intake. Seems simple, but this size is just silly looking and very hard to find. Any one know a place to snag one or two 90" 5.5 aluminum. Even the filter selection is pretty small.

Check out www.theload.com

They are primarily a semi truck supplier but they have good deals on large diameter pipe mandrels and there located in GA so shipping is fast and cheap. If you dont want to start a account with them they can create a private auction on ebay for what you need they also have a ebay store. I just bought my 4" mandrels from them and plan to rework my down pipe 4" to a cutout and then a transition to 3" so it will go all the way out the back for the street. Wish I could run 4 all the way out buy I don't have a turbo K member so that's not happening.

Also are you sure its 5.5" inlet my S400 has a 5" and here is a the link to the filter I bought. 19.99 and free shipping you cant beat it, and if you think it will restrict you pull it off on the track and let her eat.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390452627145?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I also built a boost leak test rig for a 5" inlet so if it is that size you can borrow mine and test the system once its done to save yourself 25 bucks.

Cheapest place to find the Borgwarner v band is at www.racepartsolutions.com

It has the race cover, so it's 5.5" inlet, 3" slip on outlet.
