I haven't fully made up my mind, but I might go through with it.

I have set aside a chunk of cash, plan was to put a crate motor/6-speed in it. But stuff ads up quick. Month after I bought this car, I found out I was having a 2nd child. My job has me work long hours, spending itme with kids, just hasn't allowed me to give the car the attention it needs. I have been setting money aside for the last year. I drove the car to work 2-3 times a week before it went down. But I hate to see the car just sit. Most of the last year was garage kept. I moved it out periodically to work on other cars.

1985 Chevy Camaro Z28 5-speed with 305 LG4. 123k miles.
$4250

Teh bad...
-engine has a bad knock, car has half sat for the last year, I have moved it around some, but no prolonged driving.
-battery tray is rusted
-under the hood isn't pretty but a good project.
-before it was parked, if you braked hard, car pulled a bit to the right.

The good...

Car is in great shape overall... Especially for a 3rd gen.

I bought the car of an older guy, who was fixing it up for his son, his son didn't like it and wanted a new mustang, so he got one. Alot of work was put into the car. Not perfect but blows most 3rd gens away.
-Good tires(appear nearly new)
-good brakes(would lock up, no anti lock on this car)
-decent paint
-decent seals around the car
-t-tops DO NOT LEAK, seals appear to be new
-shocks appear to be new.
-Interior is good shape, only thing I could say is since its old, its a little "crusty" I guess is the world to say, feels like the foam isn't as fluffy as a new car but it looks good.
-electric quadrajet carb is supposedly new, looks new
-new cap/rotor/coil/plugs/wires
-aftermarket exhaust no cats

Yep she ain't perfect but a great platform. I just know the rest of my year will be busy. Its sat little over a year with minimal movement. I just don't want it to "rot"

I may just dump the money and get it ba k on the road, but I don't see having the time.

that's a real hard car to value, because someone would really have to want a 1985.
here's some comparison on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=1985+z28+camaro&_osacat=6001&_from=R40&_vxp=mtr&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR4.TRC0.A0.X%221985%2 2+z28+camaro&_nkw=%221985%22+z28+camaro&_sacat=6001)

this one looks close in condition & miles: (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Camaro-IROC-Z-28-CALIFORNIA-1986-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-IROC-Z28-T-TOP-COUPE-RUST-FREE-LIKE-87-/231072709423?forcerrptr=true&hash=item35cd01bb2f&item=231072709423&pt=US_Cars_Trucks)
BIN $4500

yours is clean & nice, though. just advertise it, and let it ride. it's hard to sell stuff now.

I agree its hard to price. I am open to adjusting price.

But as you see a complete car in great shape for $7500...

Take my car, drop in a $2k GM crate motor, you have more hp, 0 mile warrantied motor, vs a 350 tpi with 130,000 miles on it.

But alot of $2500-3500 cars, are a wreck, usually faded paint, clearcoat issues, trashed interior, cracked dash pads, etc... Original shocks etc... etc... not in the condition of this car.

Car starts runs and moves but needs a motor. 90% of the people that would be into the car, would be considering a motor swap. That was my intention.

3rd gens just haven't held there value. People are asking 6-7k for pristine condition irocs with the 5.7 in good running condition.

Your car is an 85. Late 80s early 90s 3rdgens are more sought after. Your car has an lg4 and it knocks.

If I'm buying a 3rd gen with a motor swap in mind. I'd look for something that has good paint and interior with a bad motor like yours. But if I want to do a swap I'm looking to spend probably 2k max. 4k for a thirdgen that needs a motor is a pie in the sky price.

If it were a gbody instead of an fbody I'd say you'd get 4k.

It is just an asking price as stated hard to judge, so I ask on the highside. I am sure part of me doesn't want to sell it, just being realistic about my time to work on it...

but on the flipside, how often do you find a good clean 28 year old roller car for $2k?

$2k would be a descent price. $4250 isnt.

Well said I was open to offers. I had been browsing 3rd gens in 2 states for like 3-4 years when I bought it( I do admit I stopped looking about 1.5 years ago when I got my car). Never found a car near this shape, roller or not for near $2k

Won't take $2k though. but I guess if this is the overall consensus is thats what its worth, I will probably go forward with my original plans and find the time to work on it I have most the mone already set aside. Once I start it, I will probably keep working on it.

If you like the car, fix it. It's going to be extremely difficult to get more than $2k out of the car despite the overall good body and interior. 3rd gen Camaros just aren't that sought after...

its in awesome shape, for sure. i figure if it had an ls swap and you kept it looking the way it does now, you could probably get 4-5k out of it. i have noticed turd gen values coming up a little bit the last couple of years.

-$4-5k for a clean LS swapped third gen?

If you noticed a clean 350tpi, with 130k are going for $6k+ LS swapped cars are going like $7500-12k (I looked into buying one done when I got my car)

Either way, my views may be skewed.... I was even looking around at clean running 3rd gens around the nation, because I was considering selling my car, taking the money I set aside for a crate motor and buy a more finished car, since time is a scarce resource for me.

Either way I will likely stick with it... It was hard finding a 5-speed/t-top car.

Put it on ebay. Enough has been said already.

Well you know what I say about "rare" and "desirable". Its "rare" that I shit my pants and its almost never "desirable".

i have seen these, but they are usually irocs and gtas. an 85 z28 with a 305 just isnt something everyone is looking for. i think it would make a kickass car though, if you decided to work on it. if you did a swap, suspension, and wheels it would bring some good money seeing how nice it is.
as many jokes as there are about them, people do like the thirdgens. myself included. i think i like them more than the 4th gens, and i've had several of those too.

i have seen these, but they are usually irocs and gtas.

and remember, those are ASKING prices....no one is paying that.

look at how long these cars SIT on other forums..LSx and LT1 cars take forevah to sell

there's no reason to buy an IROC for $7k and put all LSx gear on it (brakes, tranny, motor, ECM) when you can buy a high mile LSx for ~9k and be driving ~375hp today.

i like your car...but to take it from what it is...to what it could be (LSx, T56, 9 inch) will take a metric butt load of money. and, as the guys pointed out above, it won't be "an investment"

because technology marches ahead...and old body styles...have old technology.
