why do all the 454 trucks have NEW engines? almost every one on CL has had a new motor.

yeah, i think the 454 in these trucks was more of a smog pump than a real motor.

The first Gen Lightnings smacked them around. I remember reading the magazine comparisons back then. At the time (I was a teenager) I did not understand how a 454ci lost to a 351ci...and it lost big. That instantly tarnished my view of the 454ss...which was my dream truck. I had posters of it on the wall in my room (right next to the Beretta GT...no comment..).

nelson did a 454ss i think? he had some vids on youtube laying 500ft stripes on the hwy. i would imagine you could yank the upper end of those motors and swap some good stuff in its place. would run like a proper big block then.

Believe they made like 230hp compared to the lightning's 240 (which is underrated). Those trucks hold value pretty well though. Too many people place a lot of value on anything that says "SS"

The wheels kill it for me. Some things you just don't mess with. Like Lightnings and TBSS's nothing looks better than the factory style wheels.
