Dear Everybody,

Come one, come all! My name's Ace. I'm new to Charleston and new on the site, figured it's bout time I took on all comers  I got the yellow 73 Camaro you've seen drivin around Summerville and Charleston every day. She's a daily, bitty cam, 3300 pound small block car, still on the stock converter. Problem is, I'm from VA, and my slicks are at home in the garage. So I'm lookin to race somebody on a comparable, hard sidewall, no traction tire like mine. My rears are BFGoodrich Radial T/A's, 275/60R15. 27 inches tall, 10.5 touching the ground. I don't need to know any more than your tire specs and we'll see what happens from there. No slicks, semi-slicks, or drag radials. Just tires not intended for racing. Could be some good money on this.

Good luck folks,
Ace

[Edit: On the street, not at the track.]

You should put that money into tires so you can get gapped. Your game is boring.

Sounds like it could be somethin. Like the first post said, I'll run against pretty much anything, just on a tire that's shitty as mine. You know his username on here?

Welcome, where are you from in VA?

73camaro
10-25-2009, 01:26 PM
I'm from Chesapeake, just west of VA Beach and Norfolk. Very southeast corner of VA. Street race/grudge race scene in the area is tiny, and dominated by some fast ass diesels.

If you want someone who is running street tires on this board, you might want to check out clubracergt1 and run his slow as BONE STOCK 9 second 1/8th mile car. Thats the only one here with street tires like yours . Or maybe you can run some STOCK ASS full size tow pigs on this board.

Man, I can't joke around here and not get bit I guess. Look, I just wanna square off with somethin that's really tire limited like me. Where wheelspin is the issue with goin fast. Like I said, I'm not big power, and I don't have a converter in the car cause I'm that broke. I got a little money for gas and betting, that's it. I'll try my luck on the budget board, didn't know about it and so I posted here, which I now realize is out of my league.

Hmm from what I hear the street racing scene is pretty big up in those parts. there are also a few performance shops in the area with some bad ass vehicles. Who are you trying to snowball?

You can't put tires on your car because you don't have a garage. what does it matter? Don't you have a jack? what are you going to do if you get a flat tire? let it sit because you don't have a garage. get real. I call BS run what ya brung and hope you brought enough. Thanks for the welcome. My college in Michigan runs a different schedule from most. 3 months at school, 3 at a work study. Keep switching back n forth for 5 years and get a degree, and my work study is with Bosch. I was never brave enough for the Armed Forces, haha.

The street race scene back home is nothin like this. Either that or I'm stupid. Maybe both. I'm impressed by what's here, and kinda sad there's not more slow cars like me.

Because of the whole college deal (see above), I live with a Bosch employee and my car gets parked in the street every night. If I get a flat, I'll either have it towed to a shop and probably buy some radials then, or if the money's bad, just let it sit and ride with the Bosch guy to work. I'm just a lowly 18 year old college kid, with a cobbled-together street car on a forum tryin to have a little fun. I respect "Run what ya brung," but I definitely didn't bring enough, or anticipate that the street race scene would be this serious down here. Hell, those mopeds might get me, seein how fast everything else is down here. Like I said, I wish I could be a contender, but I'm slow. Sorry man :?

Welcome.

Based on all that you have said on here and talked about in person, you might wanna wait and run me at the track when you get some tires. It would actually be a close race then. If we run the race that you and I talked about at dorchester, you would be giving your money away. I've been in your shoes before and can relate to the broke college student situation. With that being said i'm going to be honest with you and suggest keeping your money and putting it into the car/school/something useful instead of my pocket.

But if you still wanna race it is up to you.

there i did my good deed for the week.

Nah, I think I got gate fee, just not much more. If I lost the race I proposed, I'd be paying you back for the tires. Then I might be viable to run some other folks. Besides, I thought we'd use your garage to do all the work. Borrow your tools and jack, maybe mini-tub it, lexan, 3 stage fogger, transbrake, fiberglass front clip, chutes...

we always had guys up to house when we were active duty, putting in stereos and stuff, long as they bought supper, we worked till they were done.

one guy stayed till 3am putting stuff in. we went to sack ~11:30, left him out there.

he ate ALL the left overs ~2am to recharge his battery.

Worth a try, with gettin the carlengths right. Maybe we'll give it a practice run and then decide on how many lengths from that, try to make em fairly equal. I love close races. What speed to what speed do you wanna try? Or maybe a set distance?

Not looking to loose or possibly win alot.

Figure get a pass or 2 on each car, set some dials up to space em out right, should be good. Mine needs some practice passes, for both getting used to the track and double checking the car's health. Don't wanna lose and pay for a stupid broken U-joint. Or a tow home from there

They are both street cars, just run em and be done. No need for testing. If it drove to the track then whats there to test?

Yeah, I guess so. I mean, Dorchester looks like the street might even hook up better. A pass on mine cleans any carbon in the cylinder from my rich ass idle circuit. A Holley 650 doesn't have the fuel distribution that EFI has. Whether it's just luck, or if my thinking is correct, my first pass at the track is always the slowest of the day by a tenth or so. Plus I get a good heat cycle in the car, and mine likes that for whatever reason.

Hey, how do you think I start it on a cold day? Choke's broken, so rich idle it is. Race cars get towed to tracks, and never drive to work, park in parking garages, or go through automated car washes. Now who's got a street car?

73camaro

Good point. It was half-uninstalled from the car when I got it, and I haven't done anything with it. Spent money elsewhere, when I had some. But as I said: Automated car washes? Parking towers? I do em regularly. And with my 3 inch Super 44's, setting off car alarms in downtown is a hoot.

The two things I mentioned gotta make up for that. My Thursday night is leave from work, drive thru car wash, parking tower downtown while setting off alarms, sushi with coworkers, drive home. Anyone with a street car is welcome to accompany me.

Come hang with me at K-Mart some and we can probably do somethin for fun or a small slice.

Thanks man, spent a lot of time all over that car. Got any pics of yours? The seats are the cheapo $70 Jegs or Summit seats and to me they're great. I rode down here from SE Virginia in em, and they were fine. Lightweight too. Come to K-Mart and have a good sit in one if you like.

Hey that's a good idea. I might be able to buy tires or a converter then, haha. And the asterisks and caveats for the rules would probably make a 7th page too.

Honestly though, I got what, one or 2 with a definite date, and a lot of folks just wantin to play, which is what I like best.
