Joie Chitwood would be proud.

BTW, Cap'n, nice sig pic. I was very impressed with the Flying Lizard team and their performance in their first DP event.

Thanks! I took that picture in Daytona. I was impressed as well. Being there, you dont get to know what is going on. But you could always tell when Bergmeister was in the car. Always attacking for position.

I've been wanting to go to that race for a few years, now. How was the experience?

First time i have ever been. It was AWESOME.

here is my album from the weekend

It was great to be able to get into the garage and be there right with the team as they worked on the cars and talk with them.

Here is a video we took with a gopro headstrap, they removed the rear of the car and rebuilt the transmission and had it back on the track in 20 minutes. Pretty awesome to see

So what do you do that you can get this close to the action, and how do I get involved? I miss running a car with my friends back home, hanging out in the paddock and such. I'm one of those wierd people who enjoys the 'behind the scenes' stuff as much as, if not more, than the racing itself.

I enjoy it just as much too. The Grand-Am Series fortunately was pretty lenient. All I did was buy a ticket and a garage pass. Only place I couldnt get was the pits, where the campers were and on the trackside of the fence.

Some of the prototype teams would put up barricades when they were working on a car during a race or before. Which is understandable but the rest of the garage was open so you could still walk right up to the car if you like. ha

As far as the pictures. Just a small step ladder to get over the fence and half decent lens. A few of my pics made it to one of the Porsche teams and I think they will be used in a article feature on one of the drivers.

yeah a buddy of mine from NC did this. Just volunteer through the SCCA somehow. Im not sure of what your experience needs to be. But you work in shifts in the corners and when you are off, you can go anywhere.
