View Full Version : Just got back from the dyno

Well I just got back from the dyno. I just wanted a baseline to see what I was working with before I start doing any other modifications. I'm happy with the results, but as you can see from the graph I've got a loooong ways to go. I was hitting a spike of about 17 psi and falling to about 11 around redline. There was also a little bit of misfiring which I can hopefully correct by changing out the plugs. I will have a tuning solution in the next month or so hopefully, and then I'll be able to fix some of the issues as far as leaning out and holding some more boost to redline. I'll also have a video of the runs up tomorrow.

Nice numbers. Is it a GSX?

Its an SRT4. SRT4s run lean! Congrats on the numbers. I wonder if I could put 400 on a dynojet.

Thanks guys! Yea it is running lean which I don't like, I need to get it tuned! Not too shabby for an untuned stock turbo though.

Finally got a couple videos up. Nothing special.

Is the graph so jumpy BC you were misfiring? What did it look like without the smoothing set on 5

The turbo is fine, the little bit of flutter you hear is the internal wastegate regulating the boost. Besides, if it was on its way out it wouldn't have made those numbers on such low boost.

Yes there was some misfiring, I'm replacing the plugs this weekend, hopefully it should smooth it out a bit. The factory tune is also not that great.

Looks like it would be a good match for the cobalt. You coming out Saturday?

Yea man I'll be there Saturday night, I'll be at Dorchester on Sunday too hopefully.

No, sounds like the blow off valve is leaking... If it's adjustable I'd check the spring tension on the diaphragm, make sure it's not too loose.
And if it was breaking up, even with new plugs make sure you set the gap. Don't know what's good for SRTs though, .22-.24 with stock coils (~.28 w/COP) works on evos but its probably way off of what those things like.
Besides the smoothing though, its a nice looking graph, good flat torque curve that you can actually use. :bigthumb:

It might also be the BOV, you're right. It's an HKS SSQV, I'll definitely check it out while I'm working on the car this weekend. Supposedly a good gap for these mods is .35 so I'll start there and see what happens.
The torque is a lot of fun, but this past week with all of the rain has sucked, haven't been able to have any fun :(

Yeah those super sequentials have a plastic diaphragm, I've never liked them... The Type II's, the 'race' version, work really well though, same design just beefed up and all billet.
As far as the plug gap goes, yeah see what happens with .35 and if its still breaking up just step it down .02 or so at a time until you find your magic number. You loose a little throttle response the smaller the gap you go (very minimal though, most don't even notice) but I forgot you're not running much boost so you shouldn't have to pull them too many times to get it right.
My shit hasn't left the garage in like a week and a half with all this BS weather. Tomorrows gonna be a good day for a wash though, car's still dusty from the few hours it was out in the pollen.
Can't wait for this weekend weather!

Will do, thanks! Not looking forward to checking the BOV, huge PITA to get to on these cars. I miss my DSM, everything's so easy to get to.

If you need some parts, give Jeff a call at HHP. We've got the hookup for SRT-4 parts.

HHP? Don't think I'm familiar with them. Regardless, thanks, and I will definitely do that!

Unless you're already working with Anthony on parts. I don't want to cut him out.

Nope, just went to him for the dyno. I usually get stuff from the interwebs but if I have a local hookup that always works. Besides, he does mostly Honda stuff, and he seems to know his stuff with Hondas. Great guy, I like him a lot, but I'll just be going there for the dyno.

I got a graddy type s somewhere that was a beast on my old beater dsm. open to atmosphere to and the thing never leaked. On the plug gap .28 on
7's is the way to go.

I'll see if the HKS is the issue first, if it is I'll replace the diaphragm, no way I'm going to another flange after this one, it would be too expensive, thanks for the offer though!

I'll be sticking with the stock turbo so I won't be needing it, thanks again though!
