I had a yank 3600 and loved it.

Sweet....I guess I'll add that if you have one laying around I might be interested as well!

How much of a pain is it to install? And will I need tune updated for it?

It's not bad as far as installation goes. It can be done in a day if you have some mechanical ability. Just be sure to seat it all the way on the shaft or you will have some issues!

A tune will help.

Well im AWD and I hate working on vehicles in this wretched heat so I will probably pay for install. I have the know how and tools and all but fuck I hate this heat.

Anyone wanna throw me a price on the install? Gearmesh?

Do you still have the stock cam? If yes, I would not do more than a 3200. And definitely look into a Yank. I have had two of them. A TT2600 in the stock 5.3 and now a ST3200 behind a near stock 6.0.

Well $725 for the Yank or 375$ for the circle D.......and both get great reviews. Seems to be an easy decision. Knowing me I will want to trade it out soon enough anyways.

Should I go ahead and have the trans built while it's out? Better to have it built or go FLT or RPM trans?

Gearmesh?

i ran a 3600 precision in mine with a stock cam, it was loose like precisions are known to be so i could footbrake it to 3800-4000, it was fun to drive but only got about 8mpg around town, hwy mileage stayed about the same. I picked up .8 in the 8th with no other changes.

and yes you will have to get your shift points adjusted in the tune or it will hit the limiter on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift

go with gerald on the trans, mailorder trasmissions dont seem to last too long

For a daily driver that won't see the track much, I would aim for about a 2500-2800 stall. That way if you tow a boat for instance, it won't be too loose. Cameron at Torque Converter Services in Columbia makes some of the most efficient stall converters that I have ever come across. Circle D is a very efficient converter, too. Precisions seem to be loosely coupled at rpms above the stall speed, so I tend to shy away from them.

Papa Bear, a pm is on the way to you.

Well, looks like it's headers / plugs and wires / catless Y / circle D 3200 stall / gearmesh built trans time in a couple weeks.

Wish I didn't have $300 in PCM forless tuning already and could afford to find someone local to handle the tuning. Oh well, mail order will work for a while.

Electech tunes. If you are having all that installed, maybe he and HHP could make up a package deal. Never hurts to ask.

call JP, lsx tuning and performance 608.8579

I hear his name, yet can't find anyone who actually had THEIR vehicle tuned by him. Any personal insight?

I will say I think its the 98 ecm(less tables) or Zac f'n with it because Robert's car runs good. I'm gonna give JP a shot when my car is ready and if he cant get it right then its going to tuten.

To the OP:
JP just tuned my old GTO and the new owner says it runs way better. I'm supposed to go take it for a spin this week. I'll let you know how it runs.

I would love to have someone local tune it for me. But the finance department(WIFE) is already on my ass about this.

I can have Alvin tweak the tune for $50, or invest what, $350 or $400 for one of the local guys to do it? We'll see what happens. If I come out ahead on the money part, I will have JP tune it. I've spoken with him and it seems that he would like to do it, so we'll see.

Stall / built trans / headers / plugs / wires / trans cooler / catless Y all at one time is gonna hurt the spendin money!

my car had a lot of underlying issues we didnt know about. the harness was split for the cam sensor, we were trying to run a 2.5 bar map on a stock 98 ecm, it was just a cluster from the get go.

i could get into "blank" did "blank" to "blank" car but im not, ive personally seen some tunes that just make you wonder WTF were they thinking, but this isnt the time or place for it

Im saying nothing bad about jp. He's a great guy and I've talked with him.at the track. Zac your car rode out and so does bobs. He would also prolley do great papa bear.

Yeah, I'm sure he would. Gotta get the rest of these little parts ordered, probably be two weeks before I get up with Gerald, so hopefully by that point, the money thing will be right and I can have JP come out and tune it.

Hate to drop Alvin like that, he has been super helpful with my truck, and he really does a great job with a tune, even being mail order.

We put a lot of ProTorque converters in the Hemi's and I really like how they work.

Got one going in my Jimmy and looking forward to seeing how it works.

honestly, if you just adding headers and a converter, i would just give alvin another 50 for a quick reflash.

now if you added a cam, i would go with someone local, so they can tweak any issues you have.

PapaBear

Yeah that's the plan.....in a few months when the motor gets "opened" up I'll probably go with someone local. Really want to buy HPtuners and learn to do it myself but I'm really hesitant. Would be good to log and have Alvin handle tune that way. We'll see.

Really....I would gladly buy you dinner and drinks for some help with an email tune in a month-ish! Or pay you, whatever you would prefer!

Thanks Carl, I'll be in touch.

Can't wait to start buildin this pig.
