See if we want to get a CHP Girls Shoot nite.
my wife tried to get a few girls at work to go to the Girls gun nite at ATP, they all backed out last minute.
ATP will let you shoot guys before you buy, always a good deal for girls, see how they like it.
that LCP 380 is very light weight, and has "some" "felt" recoil because it don't weigh enough to keep the barrel from flipping up. might bother her, might not.

I hope you meant shoot guns, not us guys!
Those little pocket .380s are nice to slip in a pocket, but are not pleasant at all to shoot due to their light weight. But, they are way better than not having anything at all to make a perp bleed!
Make sure you keep those little pocket pistols cleaned on a regular basis. You wouldn't want to have an overabundance of pocket lint keeping one from working. A lot of them don't have any stainless components to them so keep a lookout for rusted parts from sweating in the heat.

What would you recommend for a carry gun for a female? She is not afraid of recoil or shooting a large caliber weapon.

S&W .38 442 of 642 Airweight is a great concealable and lightweight revolver. Easy to shoot and you can't beat the reliability of a revolver. Hamerless, so no problems being in the pocket either.

Kind of large to carry, based on a CZ28 (I think it was the 28). Very very well built guns, imported from Italy by the same importer that brings in the Saiga 12 shotgun. And believe it or not, that is NOT stainless steel.

Those EAA Witness Elite Match guns are a hell of a value for what you get. They are CZ-75 clones for the most part, but EAA uses a wide-body frame for their whole lineup from 9mm to .45 and 10mm. CZs use a normal width frame for their 9mm and .40, and go to a wide frame for their .45 model CZ-97.
Too bad all the newer EAA Witness Elite Match guns all come with a light rail. I like the looks of your non-railed version much better.
As for the personal inventory:
S&W 1911 .45 with Ed Brown Bobtail for cooler weather carry and IDPA competitions.
Glock G26 for warmer weather carry.
CZ-75 Stainless in 9mm for USPSA and IPSC competitions. The 19 round mags really piss the liberals off!
Mossberg 12ga Turkey Tactical pump
Stainless Ruger Mini-14 with ATI folding Stock and an arsenal of 20 round mags.
Savage 10fp bolt action .308Win. Best group to date: 7/8" 3 shot group @250 yards.
Beretta model 391 12ga for busting clays and fowl.

You shooting at Trader World this Wed nite? I'll be there. I'm pretty sure we will be shooting with the lights ON this time! I really do like those lights out shoots like we did last time, though. Ain't nothing like real world practice!
If anyone on the board here wants to do some pistol shooting on the move, come check us out at Trader World range Wed nite at 6:30 to sign up. We shoot at Trader World every 2nd and 4th Wed nite. Shooting starts at 7:00 and costs $10. Bring at least 100 rounds of ammo, your handgun, enough magazines to shoot at least 18 rounds at once with just simple magazine changes, strong side holster, and some eye and hearing protection. We shoot at least 2 courses of fire and sometimes 3 if time permits. Shooter performance is measured by how long it takes to shoot a course in conjunction with hits on target. Non-prime hits on target add penalty time to the raw time it takes you to run the course. The lowest adjusted time for the night wins.
For the revolver gurus out there, make sure you have enough speed loaders or moon clips to make it though an 18 round course of fire.
After experiencing shooting on the range under time stress while doing reloads, shooting on the move and from behind cover, making sure you miss the innocent targets, etc., you won't even want to shoot from a booth at just one target ever again like on a regular range visit. A regular range visit will be just like wasting ammo after you shoot at one of these action shoots.

ATP action shoots are on the 1st and 3rd Wed nites and they start at 5:30pm. They only run one course of fire that is always a 30 round course for $7.
Trader World action shoots are on the 2nd and 4th Wed nite and start at 7:00pm for $10. At least 2 courses of fire and sometimes 3 are run. We actually got 4 courses of fire in tonite--Whoo-Hoo! Round count is variable depending on what the scenario setup is.
I can understand how the Trader World range would be a letdown for you if you are shooting from the booths. During the action shoots, we are in front of the booth line and moving all over the place. It's a totally different experience.
Comparing one place to the other, we have more fun at the Trader World shoots. In the ATP shoots, you will only be moving laterally while engaging targets. At Trader World, you may be moving forward, backward, sideways, sitting down while shooting, shooting in the dark with your surefire light, etc.

I like those 5.7 uppers that go on an AR lower. They use the FN 50 round magazine that resides on top and the empty brass ejects out the bottom through the AR's magwell. It uses blowback operation so the upper stays a whole lot cleaner than a standard AR.

The FN 5.7 is a great gun, but also ballistics is very similar to a .22 mag.
The .22 mag is very under rated I think. That newish kel-tec pistol shots .22mag, very light, and the stock magazine thats regular sized holds 30 rounds. The gun itself is about 1/3 of the price of a FN5.7 and the rounds also 1/3 of the price. Only fall is that gun is ugly as hell.
Still FN's are great guns.

I was thinking he may have a reason to carry that caliber. Like having the AR upper so he would only need the one caliber ammo. Less power than a 9mm and 3 times the ammo cost is not attractive to me. That pistol is full size and pricey too.

Laser grip also? Buddy has an almost identical gun. Cocked it back one time and let the slide loose and it turned into a fully auto emptied the whole magazine. Luckily he was holding it with two hands and downrange. Very very sweet shooting gun though.

I ain't got any competition for someone that has gone through ammunition at the rate he has. It sounds like Paul was shooting just about as much a week as the factory sponsored shooters do. I bet he gave those factory sponsored shooters a run for their money back in his prime! It sounds like he was shooting primarily USPSA stuff, being he was shooting limited and open classes.
I like IDPA shooting better than USPSA style shooting. In USPSA, the mindset of the game is to seek and destroy, as in the shooter is on offense. In IDPA, the mindset is mostly defensive, and you are primarily shooting while moving, retreating, or from behind cover. I view my pistols as defensive tools, so naturally IDPA style shooting is my favorite. If I got deep into the USPSA game, my mindset for shooting IDPA would suffer and I would get dinged on procedural penalty calls.
I never did ever have a practice regimen like Paul was doing in his heyday. I don't really get into practice shooting at all. That leaves me more ammo to run the matches with. Just going to the local Wednesday night and Saturday matches is plenty of "practice" for me. When the buzzer goes off, its just me and my gun straight off the trailer! Hell, if you got to pull it out in the real world, you sure as hell won't have any "practice" time.
I do applaud those competitive shooters that put forth the level of practice like Paul was doing. It no doubt makes one more competitive in the sport. I for one just don't have the ammo budget to get to that level. I'm plenty satisfied just placing in the upper half of the field of shooters for a match. Just doing that puts me light years ahead of the typical concealed carry permit holder out there.

Gerald is right about the USPSA. It is a sport. It's about having the skill to shoot quickly and accurately. But it is also about "gaming it". IDPA is more about how you would do things in a real world situation. I shot a lot of rounds and was good enough to be master class but I never had the skill to contend with the big dogs. People like Rob Leatham, Todd Jarret, Brian Enos, Jerry Barnhart, and Jerry Miculek were out of my league.

i bought one of these, Grandmaw wanted "something to keep bears off porch, and scare drunks"
http://www.heritagemfg.com/images/site_images/RRFeature.jpg
i bought her one of the Pawn Shop 9mm deals, after ~5 clips, alot of the parts fell out the bottom of the mag well, they fixed it for free, but it had to go back to china, took ~2 months.
went back & saw this,
i thought it was junk (rough castings)
but it is REALLY fun & cheap to shoot, 22 magnum is stout enough to work for home defense (at least that what i told Gmaw!)
it has turned out to be an awesome gun to train someone on, and to let kids/new ppl shoot.

Ouch!
If you got popped by the 5-oh, you'd most likely be charged with:
"Unlawful transportation of machine gun, military firearm, or sawed-off shotgun or rifle within State."
and here is the penalty:
"A person violating the provisions of this article is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than ten thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both. "

I dont know how Taurus was 10 years ago, but right now they have really awesome quality. They do tend to need a break in period when coming from brand new. Also I don't know about their semi autos but the revolvers rock, I would take a revolver from Taurus over a smith and wesson. Thats just me tho.

NICE! Those TRP Springfields do have some pretty sharp checkering on their frontstraps.
Booi, I see you did rather well in Saturday's IDPA match. Looks like you are moving right on up there! I was doing alright until I hit stage 4. That one ate a few folk's lunches.
When are you planning on shooting your Springfield TRP in a match? Once you get hooked on making big holes with that .45, you may just forget all about your 9mm Glock!
Are you reloading yet? That will really make shooting the .45 a lot more affordable.

I shot it in my very first USPSA match. 45acp is expensive. I don't reload because it seems for 9mm it is pretty close money wise if I factor in the time it takes for me to reload. It would be worth it for .45 though.

Neat thing about loading your own is all you have to do is meet the power factor floor for either minor in 9mm or major for .45. The power factor floors are typically about 10-15% less in recoil than factory ammo. That means less of a beating on your guns, too. I probably have about 15,000 rounds through my 1911 so far and it just keeps on running.
In 9mm, I use the 135gr round nose bullet from Bayou Bullets. They are cast lead and have a proprietary coating on them that leave my barrels clean and don't smoke like hell like regular cast bullets do. They run about 7 cents each. Then add about 3 cents for the primer and 1 cent for powder charge and I have 11 cents invested per round. That comes out to $11 per hundred with me stroking the handle on the reloading press. The last time I looked at Wally World, the 100 round pack of Winchester White Box 9mm was around $23. With a little bit of my time, I am cutting that cost in half.
In .45, the bullets run me 10 cents each for the 230gr thumpers and add 4 cents for primer and powder and I am at $14 per hundred. I figured on a match day with on average 100 to 125 rounds fired, its only costing me about $4 extra to get scored for major power factor for the day. I'll gladly pay that with a big ole grin!
