Joe gibbs oil...Thats what I'm gonna run in mine and thats what my engine builder said to run. It has all the good stuff that has been removed from today's oils. It has zinc and
phosphorus.

This article is specific to Mitsubishi engines but it provides good insights on what oils out there contain all the goodies like zinc to really do a good job.

I personally prefer Valvoline VR1 synthetic.

As for your question on Mobile 1 I have no clue. Did you check Wal-Mart?

Brad Penn is the shizzy also. Turbo cars need zinc.

Proline recommends VR1 for what it's worth. It's easy to find too and is often on sale.

I'm using Schaffer's Parasynthetic racing oil in mine. Zinc, Moly and some other proprietary additive.

Carl,

0W-40 Mobil is factory fill for Mercedes and those are the only places I have seen carry it. Could try Star Motor Service in WA. We used to stock it in 55 gal. drums when I was parts manager there. They may pump it into a jug for you.

'Ole Axel huh?

Good people over there from what I've seen. I used to do all the glass work for them. Great body shop work too.

I use the new 5W-40 Turbo Diesel by Mobil1 (high detergents & decent zinc/phos). There's not really much choice over here with AAFES (unless you want to pay an ungodly amount for euro oil off-base).

Also,

The advertised grade is not always what it seems. Some 30 grades like German Castrol (0W-30) have the viscosity of a 40 grade, and M1's 0W-40 are have shown to be 30 grade after a thousand miles and stabilizes. It's all marketing/advertisement much like factory HP and a tire maker's tread-wear rating.

Looking at OA's are key to wading through all of the marketing BS. The reason why oils like Brad Penn and VR1 are a big hit in the racing community is because people have shared their analysis and the results speak for themselves.

I'd try Brad Penn/VR1 if given the chance, although I haven't really researched them all that much. One precaution to using some marketed "race" oils in daily drivers, like certain Amsoil grades, is the lack of detergents (causes less foaming). For some people/teams that break down engines every season, no problem. But running an oil with limited/no detergent packages for 50-100K miles, that shit will add up. Sludge city. Though I believe that most oils you can buy at A-zone/Advance/O'Reillys will have detergent packages contained within.

And I'm spent.

Good luck.

Go Rangers.

ok, out of those oils, what ones are sold locally, i refuse to maintain a shelf of oil..

i tried that amsoil stuff back in the day, and it was annoying to have to order a case at a time just to not get raped on price, when i only needed one more quart..

I like it alot and the price is very resonable. High Zinc, high Phosphorous, high Moly and their Penetro (TM) additive.
