Ive been slammed at work and have really fallen of the horse. Im gonna try to grab a 5k this weekend since Im not gonna be able to go to Petit Le Mans

yota 10-04-2011 02:30 PM

102 situps, 72 pushups (both max reps in 2 minutes), 11:50 1.5mile... not too bad and the cooler weather definitely helped with my run time this morning! i haven't been sub 12:00 on an official 1.5mile in almost a year...

chrisheltra 10-04-2011 08:18 PM

Whats your running route?

Heres mine.

I know a guy who lives here and I park in his driveway. Way better than running an Ashley Phosphate....

How much fun was that? It probably isnt to hard for the seasoned runner but I bet that would be a ball buster for us beginners.

I signed up and payed my money for the 5k on Saturday but doubt Ill be able to run it. I ran yesterday and only made it 2 miles before my shins started killing me and had to call the wife to come get me because I didnt feel like walking the last 2 miles. Im gonna have to take a break from running for a few weeks and maybe see a doctor.

MonteC 10-13-2011 12:26 PM

Buncha pussies. Ill be at the 5k race this weekend.

Im doing the JI connector 10k november 5th.

MonteC 10-14-2011 10:58 PM

Can i just pick my packet up anytime after 7am and before the timed 5k starts at 915?

Carlrx7 10-15-2011 12:15 AM

Air base is having a 5k run on base open to the public. November 11th I think. 8am. Selling tshirts all proceeds goto ALS research.

The run is up and down the runway and taxi ramp.

chrisheltra 10-15-2011 01:29 AM

Do any of you other runners ever get shin splints? What was your remedy for them?

yota 10-15-2011 01:43 AM

rest, ice, compression, elevation... also, when i used to get them, i would draw the cursive, uppercase alphabet with my big toe on each leg a couple times a day... if you can figure out a way to strap a couple ounces of weight (a soup can or something similar in weight) to your foot after the first week or so, it will help also... those two things usually work for me

I think I deleted that email. Their website site just said 7am, I figured that had to mean starting at 7am, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks. :bigthumb: Hoping to be under 30.

Yeah I used to. Rest is really the only thing I did for them. Also i would suggest staggering the length of your runs. Gives your body some time to heal. Like if your long run is 4-5 miles, save that for a Saturday. Then run say 2 miles on monday, Wednesday and thursday. This will help with you endurance and slowly up the mileage on the weekends. What kind of shoes are you running in?

Carlrx7 10-15-2011 11:42 AM

i picked up some gts 10's that helped my shin slints...

Asic Gel-Nimbus 12's

I think I was just running too much too often and my legs need a break. Im gonna take a few weeks to rest then get back to it. I just hope I dont lose my motivation.

MonteC 10-15-2011 12:53 PM

Clock said 28:45, BUT i wont know what my exact time will be until they email me. Should be close to 28:00.

Id also like to add, HOLY SHIT SLOW PEOPLE. If you dont get up front, your time will reflect it. I probably could have run it in 27 flat. But god damn I was passing people all the way to the finish line.

dkbmxer002 10-17-2011 01:45 PM

poor joe got hustled.

Red99T/A 10-17-2011 07:18 PM

Doesn't count, your car uses performance enhancing drugs:mrgreen:

Shin splints are from repeated impact to the heel....Switch shoes, or take the minimalist approach, and switch to barefoot style running, where you run on the ball of the foot....

Ive been running in five fingers for about 10 months now. It was a huge learning curve to adjust to running on the ball. Lots of soreness and basically starting over with my endurance. But my stride is much stronger and Im actually faster now. Definitely worth it to me.
