I now run in minimalist shoes (NB Minimus). I am only on my first month, so I am only up to 2 miles at a pop and have to rest my calves for 3-4 days, but the results this past weekend are encouraging. I have gotten a little faster and also cut my HR by a good 7-10 BPS at my steady pace. I lose some speed going down hill, and it's been a stiff learning/healing curve, but I am having fun with it.

There is a very rough 2 mile course in my very hilly town that I've never been able to break 16:5X (there's about 400 ft of ascent), but I crushed it with a 16:14 two days ago, even with a slower pace on the downhill portions. My new goal is breaking into the 15's.

signed up for the James Island Connector 10k. Oh boy.

I tried out some calf compression sleeves this weekend.

I gotta say I was skeptical of the hype but I really feel like they work. I havent ran in two weeks and knew I would be sore from a 4 mile run but after wearing these I didnt have any problem with calf fatigue or soreness for the next day or so. I would recommend them.

MonteC 10-28-2011 10:01 AM

Really not much thinking going on. Just concentrating on my breathing and my pace.

I've got to get in 16-18 miles today and I am really not looking forward to it...

yota 12-04-2011 10:54 AM

^ fuck that... i did 45 minutes on my elliptical with it set on kill this morning and literally thought i was going to die... felt like i was running up a mountain the whole time with a weight vest and ankle weights strapped on my legs... still prefer that to running distances like you are talking though... i get bored on super long runs... anything over 4-5 miles and i lose concentration and have to stop

MonteC 12-04-2011 10:56 AM

got a shin splint in my right leg. I think it came about after i modified my shoe for the nike + sensor. fml.

Red99T/A 12-04-2011 11:29 AM

Shit hurts doesnt it? I doubt its due to the sensor and manly caused by too much running.

Gotcha. Me too. I attribute that to at least 60% of my success.

Red99T/A 12-04-2011 06:28 PM

Just finished up my 16 miler, and it totally sucked. I'll have to check my watch but I think I was right around 2 hours and 10 minutes.

WWhittle 01-03-2012 09:14 PM

The only time I run is when it's raining and I need to get to my truck.
