LS header size

What size primaries would you run on a heads and cam ls1 motor? Stepped?

1 Slow Z 05-23-2010 11:23 PM

1 3/4 would be just fine IMO.

Matts94Z28 05-23-2010 11:32 PM

I would go bigger... it's not TOO much more and you will only have to do it once. You wouldn't want it to be a restriction down the road.

BigdaddyDupree 05-23-2010 11:41 PM

most s-10 swap headers are 1 7/8 at least the ones i am looking at from BRP

1 Slow Z 05-23-2010 11:48 PM

Either or would be fine, but that's just my .02

soccerspike15 05-24-2010 12:25 AM

Damn right! If Greg said it, then id ride with it. That bitch sets records!

1998ta__1991rs 05-24-2010 03:31 AM

i'd go 1 7/8" you're going to lose some low end but you'll more than make up for it up top

jmd 05-24-2010 05:11 AM

1 7/8 arh.

Blubird 05-24-2010 07:56 AM

It doesn't matter that much. If your buying brand new might as well get the 1 7/8. If your getting used headers find the best deal don't worry if it's 1 3/4 or 7/8.

hey monte check this out

I would just buy the cheapest ones you can find unless you are trying to get every last hp out of it. The hp difference in the $1k+ and the $300 headers is maybe 10hp. If your looking for the best ones, either kooks or arh stainless.

MonteC 05-24-2010 02:45 PM

WELL. They are going to be brandy new. I cant just buy these headers from anybody, they are swap headers for my monte carlo.

I have a few options to pick from, so i wanted to know what the best was to go for.

BAD BOB 05-24-2010 03:11 PM

IMHO the 1 3/4 will work just fine for motor and some NOS. once you get to a big shot or a big cube motor then worry about the bigger headers. most the time a smaller motor you wont turn really really hard so its better to have the low end to use the most of what you got. i went to 1 7/8 headers and didnt notice much change at all even on the 250 shot. but i dont know much about it since i have a ford but Greg knows so just do as "THE MAN" on radials says

BAD BOB 05-24-2010 03:14 PM

i also got a set of headers that are modified for my car but hug the motor tight so they may fit yours, if you are interested call me and we can see about checking them out. Robert 200-3196

I've known others that didnt have my same experience with that merge collector, so maybe I just had a loose set. For the money it is the best of both worlds and if you know anyone that can do some specialized wire welding, you can have the HVMC's welded on before you even install them. Then all potential problems are cured!
