which would you pick?
I'm looking at LS9 and LS7 cams right now. the only difference is the LSA. the LS9 is on a 122.5 and the LS7 is on a 120. I can get the LS9 cam for 100 bucks and the LS7 cam for 267. LS9 cam is shown to gain 30-35hp and 15-20tq. LS7 cam would assumingly add slightly more tq from tighter lsa.
which would CHP do? both would work with otherwise bone stock parts. |
Save money and get the LS9

Lol let the mods start.

Also forgot that I want to change from the Rotofab intake to a VCM over the radiator intake lol |
Why are you limited to those specific stockers? You could get a custom cam or browse the forums for used ones.. And I just saw that you want to use them with stock parts (pushrods, springs, etc) so that is understandable..but even still you could get something a little more aggressive. ;)

Might be worth it to look into aftermarket cams. TSP or even calling Pat G and having a cam spec'd to your taste could net far greater gains. Just a thought.

Roadcone is like me, he doesnt want to ruin the car. Sure you can make more with a lopey cam but no matter what IT WILL NOT DRIVE LIKE STOCK. And thats his point, he wants to make good power without any sort of sacrifice to the way the car drives. Not to mention they are factory cams and are fairly easy on parts versus the ridiculous ramp rates that kill valve springs in 10k miles like a lot of "custom cam" guys. And is it really custom if youre just picking out lobes from Comp's catalog?

i think the ls7 cam is a 3 bolt and the ls9 is a single bolt, but i may be wrong, the ls3 should be a single bolt

LS9 has three bolt is the word of the web. the ls7 can be both depending on what year it was pulled from. also, last time I checked, the LS7 cam lift and duration are rated with 1.8 rockers while most cams use 1.7's. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...son_Page_1.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...son_Page_2.jpg I'd recommend the LS9 if you need a 3bolt cam, if not, you would need the 3 bolt conversion, and depending on how much that is, is the point where you need to see if a custom ground would be better. http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...Category_Code= sorry neal for fuckin up your sail! thats what you get for not trading me the Z! lol -Carl |

Just checked the stock cam and it's a 3 bolt.
And Carl :finger: |
Either way the conversion stuff is only like 35 bucks... I would prefer the ls7 cam since 9 and 7 are the same except the LSA.
|
well shiz... now i've got a guy that works on ls3's saying to NOT do the LS7... I'm trying to figure out how its a bad choice.
|
i need a cheap ls9 cam
|
GMPartsDirect.com they have them for 99.38 i just looked up 2008 ZR1 and clicked thru

Would just put on a 100 shot and call it a day. Drive like stock and then out run the combo you intend to use. Plus you save yourself the hassle of putting in a cam.

Looks like I'm going to be running an LS7 cam... I'm looking for some used 1.85 roller rockers now... apparently the few people who have bought them are still using them tho...
