Whats up guys?
Hey guys. Just joined the site. Born and raised in Greenville, SC. 18 years old. Dont know a whole lot about cars but im learning more and more all the time. Ive owned a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and then traded it for the love of my life, my 02 Chevy s-10 Xtreme. Its an extended cab, 2 wheel drive, 4.3l V6. Its basically stock except for the straight pipe dual exhaust, spectre cold air intake, and Helix Power Tower throttle body spacer, and shes lowered 2 inches from stock in the back and 3 from stock in the front. Ill put pics up in the right section! Glad i found another spot for Carolina gearheads like me lol
Oh I'm Steve by the way haha. Nice to meet everybody |
Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site
|
Wecome to the site. My brother and I moved here from Greenville. I sure do miss it.
|
Thanks for all the welcomes guys. Yea wade Greenville is great. How often did you move away because ALOT has changed just over the past few years. And 08 racecraft i like tha older s10s too. i kno a few other local mini truckers that have bagged first gen s10s and they look like alotta fun. Eventually im gonna buy another car as a daily driver and start working on the s-10. Got a turbo ls1 swap in mind but plans change lol so well see
|
Welcome. What did you do to lower your x?
Go Ls1. Lt1 would require alittle more in tuning/ wiring than the ls swap. Unless you go Truck based than it pretty much is all same wiring except change PCM out and add a couple wires . I had a bagged 96. It was fun, miss it at times. But hey, I would own a bagged daily. Is your truck 5spd or auto? Have you ever ran it at the track? Curious if it would beat a 04ish body style stock TAHOE. (inside joke amongst some of us. :D) Welcome again. |

I was also considering a 350 swap because i heard s10 350 conversions are easy as hell but i think i can juice more power out of an ls1. Allthough if i did a 350 swap i could keep my stock transmission and just get a converter kit. Haha i would throw bags on mine but im pushin more towards speed with this one rather than looks. Maybe one day if i got some money to throw around ill get a project s10 and bag it. Shes auto. lol to be honest i forgot how to drive a stick. And na i havent ran it at the track yet but im estimating shes runnin about 230 horses based on the mods ive done if that much. Shell run 0-60 anywhere from high 6's to mid 7 second area. Shes got some pickup but for the most part is stock. Lol idk bout the tahoe but i did destroy a trailblazer in the truck a few months back. Also on the list of those who have eaten my dust are several v6 mustangs(stock), a 99 honda accord, a 96 mitsubishi eclipse, a ford harley davidson edition f150, a ford explorer, and my buddies '00 sonoma with a 2.2 4cyl but that was just for fun lol. these are all of course street races so i couldnt tell you any kind of times. I also raced a newer model pontiac firebird with a v6 and stayed dead even with him the whole time. |
the zq8 suspension is 1.5" lower than a non zq8 s-10 ("regular s-10's)
I hate to burst your bubble but I personally do not think 230 hp. Maybe 210 flywheel. If you keep your transmission and plan on putting it behind a v8 (doing it now will help also) but I would look into doing the corvette servo setup and shiftkit. It will improve it a good amount. I would look at doing an Ls1 swap. Are you a member on www.s10forum.com? Look up BlackX over there. He did an ls1 swap with a little nitrous and runs pretty decent for what has been done to it. I plan on doing an lt1 or Tbi 350 swap in my 90 blazer one day. Currently have a 355 in an 89 s15 now. bluebird on here has a 97 s10 with a LT based motor in his truck as well. Welcome to the site and enjoy. Some of us know alittle about the little s series trucks  |
Oh, I am not being a dick. Just helping you out to understand your truck alittle more.
|
welcome to the site. don't mind the dicks. lol

Haha its cool man. I really wont know what shes runnin til i get her on a dyno but its the 4.3 that came with 190 hp so who knows after what ive done to it. Its not much tho. Shes got ALOT of low to mid-end tq.
I dont know BlackX from s10forum but ive seen his vids on streetfire and that xtreme he has is everything i could possibly want outta mine. That is the baddest s10 ive ever seen! as of right now the next mod im plannin on is rims and tires just for show. I really dont think i can do anything else to the engine without pullin it out which i cant cause its my DD. |

U/d pullies, tune, nitrous, gears, converter and corvette servos, electric water pump, larger TB (remove spacer that is on it), better intake (more smooth pipe than stock piping, full exhaust (headers back. Either with a y pipe or a crossover "h or x" and out to mufflers. Of course enlarging the system to 2.25" or 2.5" mandrel bent pipe all the way out), cam, heads, etc. There is still a good bit you can do :D You can safely spray 75-100 shot of nitrous (wet kit) easily on that motor. :bigthumb: |

Everything I listed can easily be installed in a days time. You might fight with the heads and cam if you have never done it before. I believe if you did the heads in the truck you would fit a living hell getting around the brake booster on the firewall.
Do you have a muffler on the truck? if not. I would get a muffler on there as the 4.3 does like a little back pressure. No muffler is all noise over power. A stock muffler is better performance on the 4.3 than none at all. You can look at spintech, dynomax, maganflow, gibson etc. And if you must a flowcrapper. lol Headers would be alittle fun as well. But no biggie. If you were closer I would be more than willing to help you out. |
OH and you can have the 4.3 motor and transmission out in less than 5 hours using handtools and cussing . While taking a break to eat dinner as well. :D

Do you plan on having a cross over pipe installed as well? If not I would just keep you factory y pipe and either put in a highflow cat or none at all and do a single muffler.
Adding true duals on the 4.3 with no crossover pipe makes it sounds very strange and is a waste of money to get done compared to doing just a single muffler. You can do a single muffler in and dual out retaining the tailpipes you have running into your rollpan now. On my 4.3 blazer I plan on doing headers and alittle larger than stock piping to one muffler. ON my v8 s15 I am going to add an hpipe in it to help out. |
I couldnt just install the mufflers on each pipe? would that be too much back pressure?

but i mean for tha computer my eyes are wide open to anything you can type to help and i appriciate it alot man. |
its no problem
If you insist on running a dual muffler setup from the factory y pipe than ok. But if you are wanting to run true duals I would recommend doing a h or x pipe. (muffler shop should know how to do this) than go to a muffler on each side. From my understanding with your motor is that true duals will be confusing the hell out of your computer possibly throwing a code. Unless of course you get a tune that turns it off. Honestly, to save money and help out. I would a single in muffler and either dual out or single out. This way you don't have all the extra piping under your truck. I have straight dual exhaust on my truck and it is a PITA and it runs along the passenger side. One thing you have to think about is that it needs to run along the passenger side as your gas tank is on the drivers side and takes up a decent amount. |
right i get what your sayin. I really like the setup i have with the exhaust porting out the rollpan but im sure someone could set it up to still come out like that, even tho im gonna have to buy a new one anyway because theres heat warming under the right pipe port and theres also some melting back from when i got in a small accident and the rollpan was pushed up against the pipe and melting off.
|
just do a ls7 with a dry sump and ride on out. all the power you need and not keep a set of back tire on the truck for more then a week.
