Tire size

How are you guys deciding on tire size? I have been using a 27x11.50 QTP for the longest, but was considering stepping up to a 28. The car has a TCS 3800 converter and a 4.11 gear.

I use the largest one that fits in the wheel well.

X2.

Hmmm. The 28 fits, but its not as wide.

The 10.5 May have the same section width as the 11.5 Hoosier

Get the largest wheel that can possibly fit then get a tire that will clear. Rubber band that shit.

Then get a wheel twice as wide as the tire and stretch that shit.

I wonder if I can hook up with a 26x8. Gg

WHY would you think about a shorter narrower tire?

LXtasy 02-07-2012 08:15 PM

I usually base it off of what my desired rpm going through the traps are and go from there. Or see what tire sizes are allowed in a class that I would be racing. But usually it goes back to the rpm through the traps.

this!

28's in the 1/8th for me, (although haven't had a chance to run them, but they give me an extra 10mph instead of hitting the limiter) stock rodbolts dont like 7600rpms

26's for the 1/4!

The actual contact patch on the ground with the taller tire should be larger than the 27s so you should have even better traction off the line. You have to account for tire sag at lower pressures and launch so when measuring the actual rubber on the ground you have to measure front to back and across the width so the taller tire will always put more rubber on the track. Check out this slow motion launch to see what I am talking about also there is a pic to demonstrate notice how the tire smashes into the ground thats the front to back measurement I mentioned. I say go with the taller tire to keep the RPM's down and your 60 should come down (maybe half a tenth) because you should be able to launch it harder and you wont oil down the big end of the track when a rod bolt lets go.

When you live your life a 1/4 mile at a time, there is no joking in drag racing!
