Any way to check to see if there is a lien on an ATV?

I bought a 4 wheeler and was told that it was paid for with cash. I then found the original paperwork bought with the ride and it shows that it was financed. Is there any way to check the vin?

Does it matter as long you paid for it?

Yes. If the PO defaulted on the loan and sold it the bank still owns it and could come repo it...

Please tell me you got the title when you bought it...

a lot of states don't give titles for atv's

I financed mine and then paid it off with cash. Title is all in my name no lending institute is listed and has never been listed on the title. You can run the vin through the dmv to verify if it is legit though. But i wouldnt worry about it.

The Georgia DMV would know.

Is that something they would tell you over the phone or you have to go in person?

GA doesn't give titles for atv's as far as I know. They aren't required to be registered.

Does it have a VIN? If so, PM it to me and I'll see what I can do? With your permission of course.

Not sure, but in SC they would most likely make you come in person so you can show them a bill of sale.

you could say you are wanting to purchase said ATV and provide the vin at the tax office most likely and find out if there is a lien.

i know you can with a boat, so should be the same for an ATV.
