Darlington 10/31 (Today)

Anyone want to go to a test n tune tonight?

I'm still disappointed with my wheel hop on every run from last weekend at Dorchester and want to see if it was track prep and tire pressure that made the difference..(probably temp too).

slowgreen99 10-31-2012 11:21 AM

didnt help that you were out of the groove completely either.

BIRDMAN 10-31-2012 11:34 AM

Was only my second time at a strip...so I'm all ears!

I had no issues at Darlington before and had good 60' and times..

slowgreen99 10-31-2012 11:40 AM

Oh ok, we'll try to line up where other slick tire cara have left an obvious mark, called "the groove"

BIRDMAN 10-31-2012 11:49 AM

I understand that..thought I was but if I wasn't, surely I wasn't out of it on EVERY run..

Its hard to tell sometimes on your own. Good to have a friend help you line up straight and in the groove.

BIRDMAN 10-31-2012 11:53 AM

Good point. Neal was there watching me but I didn't think to ask if I wasn't lined up right.

Rule of thumb, shiny bad, dull good= The Groove.

I understand completely..like I said, thought I was lined up on it.

I think there were other factors as well..like my more than likely stiff and heat cycled street tires, psi levels, and temps. My bushings could also stand to be replaced with stiffer ones, and a trans brace added.

I'm going to Darlington tonight. look for a burgandy srt8 jeep

BIRDMAN 10-31-2012 04:03 PM

The gf has advised me that it is financially inadvisable for me to go tonight...so not entirely sure if I am yet or not.

That's a sexy Jeep you got there..

Miker 10-31-2012 06:08 PM

Track prep there has been epic all the times I have gone up. I ran high 12s bone stock on street tires everytime I went out.

red99pony 10-31-2012 06:16 PM

the track prep sunday by far wasn't the best i have ever seen at dorchester. not saying it was horrible but wasn't good either so don't beat yourself up too much. slicks seemed to be working ok, atleast better than drag radials.

I haven't been back since the new owner.

I've never ran during a normal test/tune; it was always a track rental.

LDELEE 10-31-2012 07:20 PM

It wasn't that many slick tire cars out last Sunday. Add that in with the changing of temperature, track conditions will vary. Not saying that the issue was the track, but we will try our best to get a handle on the right prep for the temps.

slowgreen99 10-31-2012 08:10 PM

Street tire after street tire after street tire tears up any prep that was there. The cobalt, burgandy mustang, and black mustang made a combined 1475 passes so I blame them.

I think it was 70% me, 30% track.

No can do. She's a great woman and I couldn't ask for better. Besides, it was just a mature suggestion...and I'm here now lol.

BIRDMAN 11-01-2012 12:52 AM

Hey was good meeting you "Bwelch!" (Sorry, horrible with names. Tell me again though)

Had NO wheel hop problems at this track at ANY time! So definitely was that other track surface...sorry LDELEE.

Here was my best for the night on worn and heat cycled 280tw tires:

(Wasn't trying to cut the light..just working on launching and getting experience)

Nice numbers on Street tires. Gives me hope for my GTO.
