Pics from my track weekend at CMP with NASA

Just thought I'd share some pics from my weekend racing with NASA at CMP (Carolina Motorsports Park). It was my first time on a roadcourse and I ran in HPDE 1 group. Great weather and tons of adrenaline.

The yellow Corvette gang..we caused quite a commotion lol:

Heading out.

Following my friend in the lead C5Z. We passed each other on occasion but for the most part were pretty even. He did spin out and John Deere the grass 3 times though, haha.

Ok, well except for this Mustang. It was a full racecar, non street legal that was very built. It was also a HPDE2 driver, because due to timing issues they had to run my DE1 group with DE2. I more than happily let him pass and then had fun attempting to stick with him in the corners.

Such a slow GTO in the corners and the straights..

Emergency rotor swap...cracked both rear rotors. I knew better than to run drilled/slotted rotors on a track, but thought that surely they'd last one weekend. I was wrong. Basically brand new rotors that had to be thrown away.

I thought that is why you put Slotted and drilled rotors on cars, Better heat dissipation.

Love that place. Capt'n Slow and I have both ran the go cart tracks there. Lots of fun. Pretty quick carts to.

Great pictures.

CMP is hard on tires and brakes but it is a fun track. Nothing like going into turn 14 and slamming on the binders only to have your foot go to the floor because you boiled the brake fluid - pucker moment.

Thinking about Roebling again this Friday for the last Hooked on Driving event of the year. You get so much track time.

Nice pics Wes! Looks like a lot of fun!

Thanks guys, it really was a blast. And let me tell ya...I'm worn out completely lol.

@Harry: Slotted yes...or possibly EXPENSIVE drilled/slotted. But the drilled holes in anything but expensive ones make the rotor weaker. The best thing usually for one piece rotors are blanks from NAPA with warranties...lol

Here are pics of the two rotors:

GTO is heavy and scares me at CMP. It is a lot of weight to be throwing in to the kink at 105mph. And turn-one kills brakes.

PB was a 1:53 with the stock motor.

And this was the most fun I ever had there; while we were taking down the autox track at the end of the day. "Hey my M3 is a lease; want to take it out?"

I've only been on CMP in a G35 once with an instructor once but it seems like it'd be fun. I dont remember the turn numbers but the only one that looked sketchy to me was the last turn...

Normal Drilled rotors are FTMFL. I just did more oem brembo blanks on mine and put ATE Super Blue in it with Ferodo 2000 pads. unless you're running a high end two piece rotor theres no point to do anything except maybe slotted and thats just so you always have a clean pad face on the rotor.

Looks like you had a good time I hope to get out there once next year and see where I stand...

Turn 14 is very sketch if you go wide. Turn 3 is also bad because the guard rail is right there if you use to much curb and get squirrelly.

I thought so too Harry but i was listing to an interview a couple weeks ago on carcast with one of the guys from willwood and he actually stated that the main reason for drilled and slotted rotors are the weight savings
