Started on my truck.

I got the supercharger and the intercooler off. Looking like the motor has got come out. How do you guys go about it. What do you atatch what to. Any info at all whould be great. thanks.

Go ahead and get the top(lower intake) & front end(ac, ps, wp, lower pulley, harmonic balancer etc....) out of the way. Pull the exhaust manifolds, radiator, and the starter. disconnect trans, converter, wiring harness, motor mounts, and yank it out. It's a tight fit between ac condenser and firewall

I probably forgot something, but you'll see it.

Thanks Mike. There was one thing that looked kind of funny. From what Ive read before. I thought the cooler would be clogged with oil. There was no oil, but it had a bunch of paint flakes on it. Some of them were preaty big. about the size of a quarter. looked just like the paint on the supercharger. Is that normal? Other than the paint it was preaty clean. Like it was just cleaned and sprayed down with WD-40. Has any of you heard of any body changing the heads in the truck?

Richard Head 04-24-2008 07:15 AM

That is probably the coating off of the rotors.

I worked on this POS some more today. Man I dont like working on this thing. I would rather take the whole drive train out of the chevelle than change the plugs in this damn thing. Anybody need another truck?

Mike 05-04-2008 12:36 AM

They can be a PITA. Did you get the motor out yet?

Yes they can and no I havent. Im trying to take the heads off without taking the motor out. I havent even got the lower intake off yet. Im still trying to get all the bull s!## out of the way. I just dont see me getting it back together with out another truck to look at. So I can figure out were everything goes.

I have pictures of the motor at various points of the teardown. When you get to a point your not sure about just let us know.

Thanks guys mostly just venting. Got the lower intake off and one of the valve covers. Started taking stuff off the front. I would like to delete the egr and do the coolant crossover at the rear of the intake while I have it apart. Im trying to take the fanhub off the front of the water pump right now. Is it left handed threads or something? Thanks for any help.

jack a 05-04-2008 06:48 PM

Wade, have you got valve covers for it yet? If not I may know where a set will be soon.

wade w 05-04-2008 06:55 PM

Im not sure yet. Their was a guy on SVT Performance that said he was going to send me a set. But its been a little while. Nor sure were they are comming from.

jack a 05-04-2008 07:00 PM

If you haven't got them before he changes his I will talk to him for you.

wade w 05-04-2008 07:10 PM

Tell me what youve got and I really need to know about the fan clutch.

wade w 05-04-2008 08:33 PM

Never mind I got it. Just incase anybody else needs to know. Its right handed
thread.

wade w 05-04-2008 09:59 PM

Dont you have to change the tune if you delete the EGR? Is this something I can do with the SCT handheld tuner? Has any of you deleted the pcv. That hose that goes on the back of the lower intake looks bad. Its all sucked up looking. Doesnt look like anything could get through it. But the intake was really clean other than the paint flakes. It just seems to me you would be loosing boost through that hole. I saw a thread on svt performance on deleting the PCV. Wasnt to sure about that. I know Im just going on and on. Just have a lot of questions. I'd really like to get it right. So I dont have to worry about it anymore. Thanks for any input.

clubracergt1 05-05-2008 05:24 AM

To the best of my knowledge, you need that hose. It is very common, however to see those collapsed after a bunch of miles. Just be glad you caught it when you did, they usually split and cause a MASSIVE vacuum leak.

It all depends on your tuner and weather or not they allow you to make user adjustment to their tune. More than likely you will have to get a new tune for the truck.

I suspected that mine was bad a few months ago b/c I had a lean bank 1&2 code. Randy and I ended up taking off the stock hose and replacing it with a piece of fule hose. IIRC it was 3/8 fuel hose (correct me if Im wrong on the size Randy)

Wade, if you have the XCAL2 or 3 then you should be able to program it with no probs. If not Mike at Unique Tuning in Hilton Head is a SCT dealer, He can tune it on the dyno also. His # is (843)208-DRAG. Hope that helps.

Not neccesaraly my tuner made it impossible to disable my EGR with my XCALII.
