I have an oil leak coming from the line highlighted in green between the engine and whatever the thing circled in red is. Any ideas on what the thing circled in red is? Thanks

I have no idea what that is.. But you do need to check on the drivers side of the car also as there was a good bit of oil on the undercarriage when I strapped it

Thanks for the heads up! I found out it's the ever elusive v-tec solenoid lol. I replaced the gaskets and that fixed the oil leak from there. After that I removed the starter and replaced it and that stopped what little oil was leaking from there. Tomorrow I intend on removing the head and checking the gasket since I smell coolant and I'm pretty sure I'm burning oil. :cry:

Replaced it today and it started right up. However, it couldn't even make it to autozone about a mile down the road without beginning to overheat. Oil level looked fine when I got there but I noticed oil dripping on the exhaust manifold. Probably from that driver side leak you are talking about. After I replaced the solenoid, my car threw a code for something wrong with the solenoid. Whenever I rev the car above 3k rpm, I see white smoke from the exhaust, which makes me think head gasket. I plan on playing with it more tomorrow.

Take the radiator cap off before you crank it. Watch for the water to bubble. I worked on a Honda with a bad headgasket and it bubbles out cause if compression going in the cooling system

Make sure the water pump is working.

BTW its a honda, its going to burn oil. leak oil. use oil. Mine has 266k on it and i have to add at least 1 quarts between oil changes. (1.5 months)

Ive overheated my b18 on more than one occasion. My wife drove it up and down the glen McConnell in the red.

Before you rip the head off do some diagnostics to make sure its a head gasket. That SOHC will be fucking pie to fix if it is the head gasket. Mine is DOHC and is harder to do but was still easy as fuck.

eh. Not really that reliable. If he ran it low on coolant its going to have air bubbles in it anyway. No cooling system is perfect and may aerate to some degree.

my buddy had the same problem,, told him to change the oil,, fixed it,, that VTAK dont like no dirty oil!

My plan of attack for today is to first go pressure wash the undercarriage so I can maybe find other sources of oil. Where is the water pump located? How will I know if it has gone bad? That sounds like a good bet on the cause of the overheating. If I can't find any bad leaks, I'll change to oil. When I checked the oil after the initial overheating, it looked almost empty, so I assumed that I dumped it all on 26 on my way home. Once I made it to MD's, I put new oil in it and put more coolant in it. I'm not sure if the coolant was actually low, I just saw a problem and tried to shotgun the answer.
