auto or manual?
Im debating. Now that im slowly resigning my self to fix his old Monte SS, i dont know which way to go. All SS were auto, so staying auto would be the easiest route, and of course cheaper because duh i build them all day.
Going 6spd would require holes being cut and pedals being installed and a high dollar clutch.... 6spd would be fun but auto would be more cost effective and easier. 6spd might require a better rear end, but with the auto i can probably get away with the 8.5 10 bolt with the proper hardware. Decisions, decisions.... |
auto .... built tranny, trans brake proper stall... done.
my .5 cents:) 5/6 speeds are fun tho. |
lol, dont really need a trans brake on a stock ls1.
|
I dont like autos, so you know my vote :p 6spd is more fun.
Except my Camaro is gonna have an auto because of ''requirement'', sooo :hide: |
Auto by far.
|
auto. i had a m6 in my old gto. always worried about clutches.
|
You already have the t56, the clutch wont be that bad for your power level ~$550. If you go auto, which would be cool, then you would be looking at big money for your 4000 stall circle d converter (assuming 4l60e, which since this is gonna be a street cruiser I would assume you want OD). I'm assuming the car will have a cam, of course.

Street = Manual
Strip = Auto If the mix of the two are equal, go auto. My $0.02 worth. dj |
You will win more race's with an auto.....Cheaper than buying clutches!

I can get you in touch with my transmission guy...

Sorry Joe. Maybe i should clarify. I already have a converter, from my research it seems to be a pretty decent one. If need be i can have it rebuilt or modified for 200-300 bucks. I have the correct 4l60e cores to build. Parts wont be so bad for me because, well, you know the parts store and all. With the six speed i still need to open it up and put bronze fork pads in it, 130 bucks, and a good clutch, id like to go ceramic not LS7, i know thats the one you quoted for price. Either way i want to get a drive shaft made. So it comes down to ease of the project. The car is set up for auto. With the manual id need to put a hole in the fire wall and a hole in the floor board, then install pedals. The car will probably be at the track every weekend. Im leaning toward auto, might save the t56 for Taras car. |
