It's probably tractor hydraulic fluid. It's usually a little thicker in viscosity than regular trans fluid, which typically tightens up converter stall a couple hundred rpm.

Tractor fluid seems to have no ill effects on the old school transmissions with a screen filter and gear style front pump. The newer transmissions with fabric filters and vane style front pumps don't get along with the tractor fluid very well at all.
