my best friends father is head mechanic @sea island marine. mercury/yamaha certified for 20+years. over the countless hours i have there with them and my own boat. i can say this.. mercury verado cowlins and yamaha hpdi cowlins litter the place. when we repowered my 23'9 vector in 2009 we went with optimax dual 150's. he didnt want me having anything to do with verado at that point in time. but he also wouldnt let me consider any other engine manufacturer. yamaha was almost 6k more for same hp/combo. more weight also cause 4 stroke. i wanted speed for offshore ska fishing. and he could talk for hours about evinrude/suzuki and how they are shit in several dif ways. i asked about johnson he said what DNR or police/military coast guard boat has johnsons on it. i said enough said
