A FRIEND
Proverbs 18: 24 "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."
My focus today is on "a friend." Are you a friend to anyone? How far would you go to help your friend? The Writer in Proverbs said that there is "A FRIEND THAT STICKETH CLOSER THAN A BROTHER." The phrase, "that sticketh closer" comes from the Hebrew word, (Dabeq) which is also translated to the English words, clinging, adhering, and cleaving. I believe that the Lord is telling us that HE will CLEAVE to us; HE is a true friend, a dear friend.
What a wonderful example the Lord is giving here in the Word of GOD of a true friend. Peter, a friend of Jesus writes in 1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all you care upon him, for he careth for you." Peter knew the clinging of his friend Jesus Christ. Peter knew that even when I am bad, Jesus is Adhering to me. Peter knew that even when you are warming your hands in a backslidden condition, Jesus will still cleave to you.
I love the old Hymn, "What a friend we have in Jesus," originally written by Joseph M. Scriven as a poem in 1855 to comfort his mother who was living in Ireland. I can tell you, it has and still bring comfort to me to know that Jesus is not somewhere far off, but he is clinging, he is adhering, he is cleaving to me. Let’s find the many that are lost and broken hearted and let’s be a true friend

16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
