All Things through Christ

"I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13.

This is a very interesting passage of Scripture. When we consider this passage in conjunction with John 15.5: "without me you can do nothing", we have a significant insight into how the Kingdom of God works. In John 15.5 Jesus tells us that we must have Him involved in the activity to make any difference for His Kingdom. This is the Holy Spirit representing Christ in our lives (John 14:26). Then we see from Philippians 4:13 that there are no limits to what can be accomplished with the Holy Spirit working in us and through us. In a real sense that is to be expected, because of whom the Holy Spirit is and because full authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Christ. This is a remarkable insight provided by Scripture into how the Kingdom works.

This has significant implications for us and how it affects what we do on a daily basis. This passage tells us to make sure the Holy Spirit, representing Christ, is doing the work through us on a daily basis. This passage tells us that this is the key to running our lives effectively. We are all faced with impossible situations, overwhelming obstacles, and circumstances that seem totally beyond our ability to deal with. But this passage says that the situations are in fact not impossible, the obstacles are not overwhelming, and that all the resources necessary to deal with the circumstances have been provided to us. Our part is to ask him through prayer how He wants to deal with them. Our part is to pray and ask Jesus to deal with these issues. Our part is to believe that these passages are true (that's called faith), and to act as if we believe them. That is, to make decisions as if we believe these passages to be true, and trust Jesus to do what He said He would do.

Note the use of the words "all things". There is nothing that is beyond the reach of Jesus to fix or deal with. We just have to believe that is true and act accordingly.
