Default The Race of Faith

here's the verse they are using:

Hebrews 12

The Race of Faith

12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

ÔÇ£Weeds"

By Mary Lee Moeny

Lay aside every encumbrance and the sin (bindweed, puncture vines, sand burrs) which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance Hebrews 12:1

It was a hot, muggy day and the flies were very sticky. I was tackling a long-put-off task of pulling weeds and was talking to the Lord about the weeds, the heat and the annoyance of the flies.

While pondering the weeds in my garden and my response to them, the Holy Spirit brought to mind other weeds ÔÇô my sins.

The writer of Hebrews 12:1 tells me to: Lay aside every encumbrance and the sin (bindweed, puncture vines, sand burrs) which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance

God reminded me of how the weeds came into my life ÔÇô through the sin of Adam and Eve, my original parents who turned from trusting God wholeheartedly and followed their own inclinations.

He reminded me that in this lifetime there is not a one-time application that removes those weeds, but that He has given me a lifetime task of pulling the weeds and deliberately removing sins from my life.

Weeding is now part of the process of following Him. Scripture says that Jesus ÔÇÿlearned obedience through the things He suffered.ÔÇØ

Because of His death on the cross, we have been given the resources to enable us to weed our lives, to deliberately choose to follow our Lord rather than follow our own desires and inclinations.

Weeding is taking on new meaning for me. Instead of being an onerous chore, it reminds me of the work of our good and gracious God ÔÇô that He is in the process of transforming me to be like His Son and that one day I will stand before Him, the weeds in my life totally eradicated. Gone forever!

In the meantime, I pull weeds.

16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
