broke the very tip end off one I got as a present.
the websites say something about a diamond hone? i think i can make a "tanto" end on mine if I have the tools. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade How can I damage a ceramic knife? Two ways. First, you can chip the edge if you cut into bones. Second, you can break off the tip or snap off the handle if you use it to pry. How are Kyocera knives made? First, they mold ceramic powder into blade "blanks" using special high pressure (many tons!) presses. Special binders in the powder allow the blanks to retain their shape before sintering (or firing), which takes several days at extremely high temperatures (in excess of 1000?© C). We then grind (on a diamond wheel) and polish the sintered blanks to form an edge and the final shape before attaching the handle. http://www.ebladestore.com/blade_shapes.shtml Tanto - The tanto is a traditional Japanese design dating back to feudal Japan. The angled grind from the edge to the tip is much heavier and stronger than other blade styles. It is used for piercing hard/tough materials and for prying or scraping.
