Default Gun Safe

My wife and I are thinking about purchasing a gun safe and I was curious if anyone has any suggestions. There are so many of them out there on the market so its hard trying to find the best bang for your buck. We don't have a large arsenal but we have a couple pistols and several long guns so we don't need anything too large. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks, Mike

We have a field and stream 24 gun safe and a sentry I think 18? Could be wrong. They are both great safes. Got the field and stream from dicks on Black Friday for 399. Can't beat it for the money.

A lot of the bargain price gun safes aren't insulated for fire protection, but they are nearly just as theft proof as the high end ones that are. I prefer a mechanical dial lock myself, as an electronic lock may give you fits trying to open the safe after a fire.

One feature I looked for when I was shopping for a safe is a door with external hinges. That way, when you have to move that big sucker, you can lighten it up by about 1/3rd by lifting the door off first.

Be sure to google each safe you look at. When I was looking I found several that "looked" good and then I found video's of people breaking into them in literally 1-2 mins. Be sure to also buy a big enough one for your guns and also your personal valuable items you have any any other items or documents you want protected from fire. Being I live out in the country its a pretty safe bet if I have a fire it will burn to the ground before the volunteer firefighters get there so a longer fire rating was more important to me.
