It runs fine but knocks a bit at cold start.

Mine has been doing that for years. It does it worse when it gets cold outside.

Awe good ol LS piston slap. I wouldnt worry about it most of these motors start doing that, but they keep going.

I would do a compression test, and provided thats good and oil pressure is good keep riding doesnt hurt to get a motor for it just in case though and have it on the stand.
