Default Cylinder head repair opinions

I'm looking at getting a set of heads pretty cheap that have some damage. The PO used self aligning rockers, gouged the valve locks, and dropped one valve. Is this considered a total loss or could it be repaired reasonably? PAR quoted the owner $300-$400 for a fix.

These have approx 2000 miles on them.
more pics available on request.

You will need non-self aligning rockers. I ran self aligning stock lt4 rockers and it caused the damage to the heads. I was not informed of this when I sent the heads out to advanced induction. They "assumed" I would know what they did. Assumptions destroy engines. My loss, your gain.

I paid over $1900 to have these ported and built. Save yourself some serious cash.

Ouch. Should be able to be repaired. I don't know who to get to do it, though. Abby's fixed a friends Trick Flow head that looked worse than that one.....

I've fixed worse. Aluminum is very forgiving.

This. That's not bad at all.

the aluminum that holds the guide in place is busted up and gone. that could be a problem unless its welded up, machined properly, new guide installed/ reamed. then the seat needs replaced and what looks like an expensive valve. the springs to retainer fit looks weird to me and so do the locks. but they will need to be replaced but there is just something about the top of the spring that looks weird.

the CNC work looks like it misses spots all over the place so I have to wonder what the intake port volume is in the first place. its possible it is 210 and they are selling a $1000 215cc port. or maybe the head has alot of core shift and port flow could be all over the map

to me it looks like you could have an easy $1000 into a set of heads that if not repaired properly could end up costing even more money in the future.

its easy to weld up a chamber and replace a seat but it may not be easy to repair the guide area.

why no guide plates on the heads?

I would pass. That's my opinion

The valve is an OEM GM LT4 valve with Advanced Inductions own back cut machined and the springs are manley nexteks with 10 degree locks. There should be guide plates, but the guy didn't know what he was doing and used the self aligning rockers.

After some reading it doesn't look so bad, but the guide area also scares me. I sent some pictures to AI to see what they would charge to fix them.

I can get them for less than $500... I just don't want $1000 or more in them considering my options open up at that point.

Just got another message from the owner, he said there is already a new guide in the head, but the guide area has not been fixed. Makes me think there is an issue with it and that may be why he is selling...

I figured your cheap ass would say that. so I checked Jegs to see how much a set of edelbrocks would cost and I almost fell on the floor that chevy heads cost more money then mopar heads.

next I checked AFR 210cc head with a 2.08 valve only flows 9cfm more than AIs stock head with a 2.0 valve. interesting

Lol! You know I am on a tight budget... my wallet doesn't like to open. I wonder if they are fudging the numbers a bit...

I meant to say a new seat is in the head... my bad.

Matthew,
Less than $1k to replace seat(s), do any welding, grinding/blending, etc. + the typical $495 Performance Rebuild which is CNC'd valve jobs, blending, valve grinding, milling, cleaning, assembly/setup. *At this point I would need a couple weeks before I could really get into them. *Shoot me an email in a week or two if you decide to drop them off. *Thanks!

if he could get you put together for under 1k and the heads were 500, thats not a bad deal. (including new valves and stuff)

That's what I was thinking. I'd still need rockers and an intake so I'd be in it $2000.
