Default Axle Time? Yukon/Superior Gear

Looking for feedback on both Yukon gear and Superior Axle. I'm switching from a 29x 11.5 QTP on a 8inch rim, to a 28x 14.5 QTP on a 11" rim. Will have about 4 more inches of rubber on the ground. Goal is more traction and more MPH. That said, some guys can go 9's on stock axles (4000+lb), others snap them in the 11's. I've always spun a little, but managed 1.57-1.63 60's last 4 passes in Darlington. That said, some stress hasn't been added in yet from a dead hook.

Both upgrades would be to a 1541H alloy, still 30 spline. Current rear end setup is GM 10 bolt, stock 3.73's, detroit TrueTrac, Moser Cover/support, ARP studs on caps. Not looking to swap rear ends at this point.

Looking for feedback on both brands and other thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I bet you break the rear before you break an axle. Or a combo of both at the same time.

From my research most guys breaking rears/sheering teeth 1) didn't run a cover to help with flex, and 2) ran tall gears (4.10+). The taller gears have more teeth and because of that are thinner. The short gears are thicker and handle the flex placed on the tips better when flex happens. Again, this is just from what I've read from others who have pushed these rears.

Correction. Missed you were running a Detroit. I think either axle package would be fine. Yukon makes FMS gears, so I am sure their axles are good pieces.

Im sure 30 splines should be fine but do they offer anything with more? BTW those tires look nice they should get you another 1/10th or two.

Thanks Chris, I hope so. They do offer more but your getting more into the custom stuff with a spool. Trying to keep the true-trac at this point.

I just installed some yukon 4.10's in a 10 bolt camaro and didnt like the gears at all. Thats my only experience with them, but I would not buy them for a camaro again.

Always used the Mosier axles, and I am still 4 lug with 5/8 studs. If your truck is anything like cars with slicks, the bigger tires will most likely slow it down. I have seen alot of cars running big tires like Kenny's Chevy II, speed up by going to 28x10.5's, I guess due to less rolling mass and friction. But you have nothing to loose by trying, it all an experiment..

Your new meats look really great. However your hooking ability on the track comes more from the height of the sidewall than the tread width. Hopefully these new tires will work good for you. Like Darryl said, it's all an experiment. You will definitely learn what works and what doesn't work. Good luck, I hope you reach your goals. Your truck has already accomplished some great things as it sits now!

I might have to give moser a call as I dont see anything off the shelf. I also dont know anyone on performance trucks running a 12" tread slick, so it is new stuff on either it will or won't work. I'll be back soon but my lady friend sent me some aluminum porn, the front wheels came in yesterday...: from my math the new tires/wheels will remove 145 pounds rotational mass lol. 100 of that is off the nose.

Yeah you do....well kinda 12" radial here but not on a silverado. It should work but I feel like you should have gone with a 30" tire instead.

I have had the Superior axles in my car now for several years. I had also always used Mosers but they weren't in stock at the time. I went with them over all else available because of the warranty. No problems at all.

Chris I spent about a week on the wall on what tires to run. I was looking for wide and small section width to fit my setup. I'd love for these to hook (deep 1.5s) and grab the mph of 28" tire. Also these weigh in at 25 pounds over the mt at 39. For some reason the silverado boys are gun shy of the drag radials. I'm also different in the fact I shock the tire pretty good off the t-brake.

I'll give these a chance, well see if it pays off or not. The MT maybe a option down the road as I know you and other L's make them work.

Ended up going with Superior gear as they heat treat the shafts and have a 5 year warranty. Currently got the new DD Xj jeep being a jack stand queen due to a slave R2, aka PITA transmission removal. Anyways, interested in seeing these next to stockers and if theres any wear on the stock ones. All I got to say so far is there puppies are heavy. Maybe I'll get to it early next week. Like to have them in before the STS as I plan to attend this year.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get the studs pressed in?
