Turn system off. You would need to recover all the refrigerant into your unit. Remove txv. Install new txv. Cut dryer out. Solder new one in. Pressurize the system with nitrogen. Remove nitrogen from system if not leaks found. Put vacuum pump on system and vacuum down to about 250-500 microns (i prefer 2xx). Open valves. Turn system on. Let run for awhile. Check charge and add refrigerant if need be.
How do you know that you need a txv and filter dryer and oil added to the compressor?

I forgot to ask that Marty. Feel retarded lol. I guess that is what happens when you answer home a/c questions majority of the night. Most likely auto now that I think about it

The info is free. It is the tools to do that job that aren't and most likely won't be had by the norm.

best to drain the system if you got access to a auto a/c machine it will drain the oil if not you can pull the compressor and drain it or buy the whole a/c kit from vato zone or lakeshore and replace it all

it would help if you could tell us what is going on with it. if your pressures are out of wack then that could mean something.

Low side is low...hi side is hi...added freon pressures go up and air doesn't get colder ....feels like the heat is on ...compressor works obviously

to me it sounds like the orfice tube may have a blockage. If that is the case the normal thing that will contaminate it is a compressor coming apart. With it blocked the pressure will be higher than normal bc of the extra restriction. if the fans are coming on i would probably pull that out and see what it looks like. I dont believe many gm dryers will cause and issue like that bc i think they are in the return side of the system.

High side too high along with low side too low is most likely a restricted orifice tube. Usually the only thing that clogs them up is internal compressor debris. All it takes is for just one cylinder of a 10 cylinder compressor to take a crap. The other 9 will still pump adequately to see the pressures you described.
If you do have a clogged orifice, make sure you flush your condenser or get a new one. The stuff on a clogged orifice is the compressor junk that managed to get through the condenser. Some of these newer uber efficient condensers don't flush all that well, so replacement is a safe bet to keep the rest of your parts investment alive.
