If the laptop is from 06, and you've spent over 150$ on it. You've over spent.

For 500 bucks I can get you a new gen (not ivy bridge) core i5 with a decent graphics card.

Hell, for 800 bucks I would sell you that Alienware MX14 R1 I have. It would be an end all be all for any game you want to play (as this laptop will play any pc game you want to play).

Spending 250 on a laptop will yeild minimal gains. You will be in the same boat you are now, a laptop that is about to die or crash and burn.

Flashing lights can mean anything from memory not seated properly to hard drive cannot find NTLDR or MBR, even Boot INI file could be corrupted.

I could troubleshoot it if you want.

Have you tried a different battery or power cord? I've seen similar problems come from those pieces. Especially Dells.

I kind of agree with namewastaken_0_0, you probably already put too much in it. I would move on and just put your money into a new one.

^--This.

I had a laptop that the hard drive crashed. Got a new hard drive ($26). My brother was trying to recover all my pictures and important files on the old hard drive. He couldn't get all of them (all my documents, invoices etc GONE) I went to price a new OS and realized it was cheaper to buy a new laptop instead with Windows 7. IMO, computers are fairly inexpensive that if something "major" happens, just upgrade.

This is the laptop that I currently run for my personal use. Now I am no computer guru, but it does serve its purpose for me

you really should post up what model & brand it is, but here goes:

NVIDIA GPU Update: NVIDIA Class Action Settlement and Limited Warranty Enhancement

FWIW, i work on a laptop a few days, then I junk it.

technology moves to fast to rescue something from 2006.

I have a Mackbook that's 5 years old and it still works as well as the day we bought it. My old Dell Laptop took a crap on me after a year and a half.
