Nice driving!

It looks like you are actually having way more fun with that automatic trans in autocross than you ever would have had with a manual trans!

For AutoX the last thing you want a close ratio 6-speed.

Shifting = distraction from dodging cones.

Only had to shift in big courses, otherwise its 2nd gear all the way.

this is pretty far from the truth... generally once you shift into 2nd you stay there... idk of many autcrosses that see much if any above 60mph... heck mine runs 47, 68, 98, 141 in 1st thru 4th.

Close ratio; look at all the time lost shifting 1-2-3.

(Some shitty driving too, 1000lbs rabbit is a bit different then my car.)

On a course where you can just leave it in 2nd in a manual vs auto there is no benefit of either. Once you start dropping into 1st or going into 3rd the auto really shines.

For those that may be considering paddle shift, US Shift makes a stand alone trans controller for the GM and Ford transmissions. Its got tons of options including paddle shift and two selectable programs. All it needs to work is ignition power and ground, tps signal, and a vss signal. Last time I ordered one, the controller ran $400 and the harness for your trans ran $150. This unit blows the TCI controller out the water on capability and costs a lot less, too.

The only issue with those is getting the ECU to be happy.

I'm putting in a new steering wheel but leaving the oem clock spring so I can use radio volume +/-, etc as passthrew for the paddles.

think of all the time lost fighting the trans not decoupling and all of the extra inertia pushing the car along under braking and mid turn throttle respose... I've NEVER EVER Driven an automatic car and felt "yeah, this would be ruined by a manual" i've always thought... oh shit this is scary, i have zero control over power to the rear wheels...

auto = good for drag racing and your wifes car.... other than that its just an excuse for sucking at driving...

With my tune = transgo shift kit it feels like a 1:1 connection any time you are moving above 2k rpm.

Engine braking, etc feels just like a manual.

The 4L60E and its variants have no engine braking when the shifter is in D4. They do have engine braking with the shifter in the D3, 2, and 1 positions. One odd trait is that there isn't engine braking when the trans is electrically commanded to 1st or 2nd while the shifter is in the D3 position. Sonnax has fixed this engineering oversight with a special valve that will provide engine braking during all 3 gears when the shifter is in D3 position. Miker's trans has this valve upgrade installed.
