Competitiveness with regards to price, or I assume they thought that that rod length would be fine. You know, its our trannys that break them or fracture them for the final blow... The 4r100 is a wicked tranny, with nothing more than a modulator valve it kicks like a mule. Spin the motor 5400 rpm's and and hit it with a transmission with a VB that drops the rpm in a split second 2000 or so rpms on a 6.658 rod length and you can see where the stress goes.............

They were reliable at 600, but the tune needed to be spot on......
