Default Car issue

I got this text from my sister this morning
"In a car, what could make a big bang noise, stop the brakes and gas from working, makes the steering wheel stick, and not and to change gears?"

The car is a '98 neon with lots of miles. According to my dad, there's no apparent damage. Any ideas?

Lol. Yeah. At first I thought the engine block up and fell out out lol. Apparently nothing looks physically wrong in the engine bay. ACC belt was my next thought, but that wouldn't affect throttle control or the ability to change gears. No leaking fluids can be seen.

Now it seems as if the car won't start and gives her the "ch ch ch" sound. I told her to start by fixing the starter since it seems to be the first step in the diagnostic journey lol.

sounds like the timing belt broke, and it died.

i bought a Neon cheap and had the timing belt fixed. it's a few dollars.
and there's a motor Mount that is a "might as well" while you are in there

is she local?

I gotcha on the starter. Not that. The timing belt makes a lot of sense Ne I don't know why I didn't think about it in the beginning. I'll tell my dad to take a look. I'm 1200 miles away, so it's kinda tough for me lol. Thanks guys

Well, I've had the car for four years and my parents couldn't afford to get my sis one, so I gave her the neon when I bought the TA. She was only going about 30 when it popped, so I'm really hoping for her sake they can fix this for fairly cheap. They said around $600. It seems like a solid car that's taken me from here to Texas and back numerous times. Unfortunately she's in no position to get a new car right now
