Well I got a line on a 1500 mile 12-bolt w/ eaton posi(800lb spring), 33spline axles and backing plates for half the cost of the s60...
This is tough. I really would like to have a new rear end thats strong and I won't have to worry about, but I am a jew at heart and live for a good deal. I have never really considered the 12-bolt as an option for my car. Anyone have any complaints about 12-bolts?

I ran 6.16 @110 w/a 1.32 60ft launching at 4500rpm in my old 70 Nova with a 12 bolt. The 12 bolt had 4.88 gear,33 spline spool and strange axles. The tires were 32/14.0/15 Firestone slicks. The car with driver weights 3250lbs.No Nos or other power adders.Just raw HP.I never had a lick of trouble from it.
My brother's 69 Nova "small" BBC weights 3900lbs+ with driver. It did run 6.80-.90 using a 8.5" 10 bolt. The 8.5 has 3.90 gear,Moser 28 spline spool and Moser C-clip elim axles. It also has a T/A cover which acts as a gridle. He launches off idle using a manual valvebody T350 w/a TCI super streetfighter conv (3500 stall). Those ET's are on motor. With 180 shot out the hole off idle it flashes to 5000rpm,dang wore converter, and has run 6.60's.So,as Holten said,10 bolt can be built to last. My 64 runs a 9" with 4.33 gears,31 spline Detroit Locker,Nodular housing and "stock" resplined axles. It weights 4000lbs+ with driver.I launch off trans brake at 3200-3500 rpms.My best time is a 6.96 @ 99mph w/a 1.57 60ft.I do have tire spin off the line, about 2 1/2-3 revolutions.

12 bolts work great in older cars, they just don't like the abuse in the center where the TQ arm mounts

That's the same thing that has happened to my 10bolt 3 times. Dead quiet until track passes. I would hate to spend the money on a 12bolt and have the same thing happen.
