I know you do Mike, but you may need it lol......... And like I said I don't have to have it, I have a friend at work with an F250 that has one of those J code 4r100 transmissions and you wouldn't believe how long it takes that thing to go into 2nd the few times it would go into second.

He needs a rebuild, and he's desperate. He's getting ready to pay one of those backwoods transmission shops on ladson road to rebuild it, i'm just trying to help him get it right without hurting his pocket, I told him I'd pull it.

Stay away from that Suncoast kit. It would be fine for a low RPM diesel, but not a higher revving performance gas engine. From the picture, I can see it uses the 8-9 count direct clutch pack from Alto. To fit that many plates in the direct drum, all the plates have to be very thin. There is simply no heat sink capacity for high rpm engagements with a lot of power.

The way to go is to use thick steels with thin frictions, if they are available for that particular application. Thin frictions are no problem as they are saturated in trans fluid. Thick steels are desired due to their heat absorption capabilities.

When I do a performance build on a 4R100, I firm up the shifts in the accumulator body with Sonnax parts. I did the build in David Muckenfuss' Lightning and he is well pleased. His transmission was originally reworked by the previous owner of the truck with the high count Alto clutch packs. These clutch packs were burnt to a crisp when I tore that unit down. I used Raybestos Blues in his direct clutch with the stock plate count and it will hold up to more abuse that the thin plate pack from Alto.

I see that kit from Suncoast is $400 plus. All I see is soft parts in the picture. I can beat that price on soft parts easy, even using Raybestos blue plates in the direct and intermediate clutches.

Give me a call at 509-3838 if you have any more questions.

Thanks man, I'll let him know. He has an N/A 2v 5.4 with my old eaton blower on top, he does alot of towing and apparently beat the dookie out of that tranny, I told him to upgrade the valve body or at least the modulator valve but he's a meathead and now its gonna cost him.

I'll let you know if he lets me pull it, I'm not taking it to some of these hack job tranny shops around here, I've heard wayyyyy too many horror stories.
