how old are you? job status? student? only car?

a LS trade is the only logical answer, but it could take a long time if you hit a snag, and esp if you need a MBT of $$ to recover from the snag.

if you are young, you will be looking to trade around soon, and i think a LSx swap will be better to sell than a SBC upgrade.

FWIW, we put a Performer RPM intake on a 305 H.O. (back when Vanilla Ice was cool), and it was soft on bottom, but it rolled out on mid/top end for what it was.

i say drive it as is, and just talk about it.
once you take it off the road, and apart, you got problems.

That's not too bad. Fwiw all the local yards want $800+ for any ls truck motor. I think Marathon recycling in summerville has the best prices.

i am 18 and work full time at Boeing. this car is not my DD, but i would like it to be soon. im focusing on getting all the non-drivetrain done first (body and interrior) and all of that is just about done.

I also think your HP numbers are way off. You might be at 300whp with a h/c/I 305. A bolt on ls1 will make 350whp but cost too much, cam it to make 400+ or stay 1st Gen SBC.

You might get the ls swap for $2500ish but double that to get it in the car.

Grab a 350 build it for under $2k and make 350+whp and swap it in an hour.
you can get over 350hp out of a 305. but you are correct about the 350 being better in the long run. the only reason i am even considering building up the 305 a little is becasue i might throw it in a truck later down the road just for fun. just about the only huge difference between there setup and mine is the heads:

"There were a few surprised expressions when the 305 cranked 367 hp at 6,000 rpm on the first pull. With some fine-tuning of the air/fuel ratio via a jet change to the Speed Demon carb, power inched up to 372 hp at 6,100 rpm"

thats an engine dyno, take 20% for drivetrain loss and you're at what? 300whp, less than a STOCK 5.3 with carb setup and cam.

i didnt realize it was a "weekend" car that can afford downtime, so i retract all previous statements about going 1st gen SBC, go LS without a doubt.

Retarded. Probably voted that way because his wife told him no laws could be broken with that motor.
