hey guys i wanted to post a poll on here and see what you all think. I am wanting a bit more power out of my camaro, and have narrowed it down to 3 different choices. I already have a 305 with aftermarket intake, ignition, carb, cam, and headers. I am not looking for any crazy power numbers, just something i can depend on and have some decent power when i wanna play (350-400hp). this is mostly going to be just a fun car to cruse around in and every once in a while take it to the strip to play. i would like to spend as little as possable and at the same time get good results. so here is my question, throw a set of heads on my 305 and get around 350-360 hp for around $1000, buy a 383 stroker crate engine for around $3,300. or get an LS1 engine/trans combo (was told i can get one of these for around $2,500-$3,000 used). what do you guys think?

Spending 1000 bucks on a 305 would be like head butting a knife.

I agree!!!!
I also think your HP numbers are way off. You might be at 300whp with a h/c/I 305. A bolt on ls1 will make 350whp but cost too much, cam it to make 400+ or stay 1st Gen SBC. You might get the ls swap for $2500ish but double that to get it in the car. Grab a 350 build it for under $2k and make 350+whp and swap it in an hour. |

I keep all my invoices in my drawer at work Ive spent right at 3500 on my swap. Your results may vary. I was gifted the 5.3 so add 350 bucks for a junkyard mota. It can be done cheap if you wait on deals..... this includes the tubular k member and high dollar drive shaft.
