Default Robert saved me a tranny rebuild / few thousand $$

band was down to the rivets

dodge Heavy duty 48RE, took it in to change out the OEM sorry solenoid for the upgraded GM solenoid. was shifting sloppy. i had changed out the OEM solenoid years ago, and done a Fluid & filter few months ago (all myself)

Robert recommend a band adjustment, and it needed it.
by the time got it right, the adjuster bolt was about flush with the lock nut that holds it.

so he recommended dropping the valve body, and looking at it.
was very loose, and he knew how to fish it in & out without dropping the whole tranny

fished out the old one, and it was down the rivets. a few more hundred miles, and i would have looking at a tranny rebuild, which most folks quote at $5k for these trucks.

and then, he recommended a bunch of "failure prone" upgrades while he had it apart.

it shifts & drives GREAT now. and he brought it in about half the cost I thought he would.

can't say enough good things about Robert

The second gear band is a common failure point on all of dodges older rear wheel drive transmissions. The 47/48re seem to be worse about it, the added torque im sure. Cool thing about them is that if you can catch the band before it goes metal to metal you can drop the valvebody and cut the old band out. Grind a little on the new band and slide that sucker in. Once the band goes metal on metal the trans has to come out.

Rob is a great guy to deal with. You won't go wrong with him. Glad he saved you some money. It's all about making a living vs. making a killing that keeps customers happy.

yeah, he did the tranny on the mustang, and the maint on both tahoes (rear & tranny's), and now this work on the Dodge. i like a guy i can trust, and he don't mind stopping work to call & ask me how much i want to spend to get it right. tranny's are where i don't mind spending to get it RIGHT. a cheap part can mean an expensive rebuild.

a saw what you wrote about "mail order" tranny's in another thread. with you and Robert in town, why would anyone rely on someone else?

I dont understand how "grease the joints" sounds like "change the oil".

No high dollar stuff, just regular castrol 10w30.

If he did I'm sure John would have bitched about the price. He's the Jew Godfather. Matt and I got all out techniques from John.

The "special griffin treatment" usually smells pretty bad.
