i seen a car(wagon) satuday that wouldnt get down the track straight if you pulled it with a tractor on slicks, put the radials on and lifted the tires about 2 ft off the ground and rode on out straight as an arrow

C4 = wheelstands and you know I love me some wheelstands lol. Seriously tho every ford guy ends up going to a glide eventually. The real question becomes why didn't you bring this up BEFORE I dropped 1350 bucks on my C4? I coulda just bought yours lol.

Maybe. Good parts cost money tho and no sense in skimping out. I think Ill have a good strong tranny that I can grow with. One day I want a motor like Brandon's and you need good parts behind a powerhouse like that.

Damn I wouldn't think $1350 would be a lot for a tranny lol. Used to paying twice that for a decent built one.

^^ AOD is a good trans but the 2.40 vs the 2.46? of the C4 isn't really any change.
a 2.10, 400 or 1.80 glide are the tickets, but those gear sets along are around the price you see listed acouple post above. |

You learned how to get your car to go down the track on radials with the 3 speed, the powerglide will be a piece of cake.

+1. Nothing like watching the guys sweat in True Street on the 30 mile trip at 70mph on the open road, and you can just flip a switch for overdrive. Nothing helps a heavy pig like mine more then the 2.84 first gear..

Good internals for a C-4 can add up some dollars in a sneaky way.
$150 hardened input shaft $250 6 pinion forward planet $100 intermediate servo $300 for manual valve body. Add another $200 or so extra for transbrake. $90 reinforced forward drum $60 Raybestos blue clutches for high/rev clutch = $950 in parts so far Add to this a paper/rubber kit, bushings, filter, band, and any other small parts that go into a detail built C-4. Then a little machine work to get 5 clutches to fit in the high clutch without resorting to thin steels that any experienced high performance trans builder knows won't take the heat. Never resort to thin steels on a dynamicly engaged clutch in order to make room for an extra clutch plate/plates. Oh yea, and don't forget a little labor for the builder. Once you get your initial hard parts investment over with in a C-4, future freshening up builds will only cost a fraction of the original build, as the good hard parts will already be in there.

you forgot the 300.00 for the machine shop to cut the planets and hubs so you can roller rize it and get rid of those thrust washers. been building trannys and racing fords for 30 plus years. i got a glide in my toy. but i got a c4 in my street 66 mustang. but it is a street car.

robert if you really fix a glide for racing 1350 won,t cover everything. you got to have a ultra bell a transbrake input shaft hardened clutch hub double ring servo rabestos clutchs band and o yea you got to find a case to cut up too. and if you going fast you need an aftermarket set of planets
