Default Powerglide with 1.82

First off, I want one with the 1.76 planetary. But, can't seem to find one locally. Does anyone know how much power the 1.82 will hold before it breaks? I know a couple people using the 1.82 planetary and are having no issues and running high 5's low 6's in the 1/8th.... I'm just not sure if it will last long leaving off the transbrake and spraying 250 out the hole....

I think you are good either way Nathan. 1.76 or 1.82. As we always tell Sale-pack....Choot it!

My car will be pretty light. I just don't want to go to the track and break it the first couple times I'm there......

1.82s are plenty strong enough. Plus if you break the planetary there's plenty more out there

rule of thumb if its over 3000 pds or 450hps leave the 182s alone. lots of people say they live but i have many many sets under my table that did not. they sell a sleeve to weld on 182s that helps but they still are not bulletproof.

Freddy is right, anything 3000+ use 1.76. I had a 1900 lb altered with a stout 434 and ran a 1.82 just to see if I could break them. 8 yrs later I still use the tranny as my spare. Let me know what ya need. I have around 5 sets of 1.76s and about 12 sets of 1.82s and some where around 23 cases and about 30 tailshaft housings. I build race trannys on the side "AC's performance transmissions"

I really was looking for just a complete Powerglide with a 1.76 planetary. I will modify it as needed myself. I don't have a shit load of money to play with right now, but already have a converter, valvebody, and ultrabell.

my set-up will make way more than 450hp......and the car with me in it should be right at 3000 lbs.....

I'm definitely going to go with a 1.76 planetary, I don't think a 1.82 will hold what I've got planned for it. If I ever class race the car it will need to weigh a certain amount and I want to built this car right so it doesn't break all the time....
