Before you read too far into this, let me preface this post with; "I kow this car nor these times are anything near record breaking, but it does go to show what I said earlier in my other post that just because you have fk-ton of HP and an @ss-load of TQ, does not mean it is automatically a well-balanced machine". The days of bragging rights for highest horsepower rating are pointless if you cannot make use of it in a symphony of events and that was my whole point of my comment.
I think Ford and definitely Chevrolet & Cadillac (w/the Z & V cars) understand that in order to be taken seriously on the world stage, a car has to be able to do a myriad of things on a road course and still come up with a respectable time. I think this is validated by the fact that all of the big hitters in American performance are now using the Nurburgring as a proving ground and ultimately a bragging right to demonstrate they can make a well balanced performance car to compete with the European market. http://youtu.be/8mhjGERugh0?hd=1 Watch as the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1 carves up Nurburgring in 7:41.27 – bringing the Camaro neck and neck with the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Lamborghini Murci?®lago lap times. The Camaro ZL1 used for the lap was a production-intent model, with no performance modifications, driven by Camaro Performance Engineer Aaron Link. |
