Default Cheap car for 15 Yr old son

My son in Pennsylvania is turning 16 in July, and i'm looking to get him his first car. Looking to spend around $1000 maybe. Just starting, so not in a big hurry. I will be driving it up to him, so reliability is needed.

You will be lucky to find something running for a 1000.00 or has tranny problems.

I may have something for you. Your son won't get all the ladies with it, he's going to have to work for that, but its a blue 4 door cavalier, I'd guess early 2000's. Runs, idles, auto shifts fine & working a/c. It a ex-lady friends of mine, I put a battery and starter on it. It's got a good bit of body damage on one side, but again drives straight and everything pretty much works, I'd guess around 110-120k area.

I think you could get it for $900-1000.

Let me know, I can get you some pictures or her contact number.

I remember my first car.

I had to work my ass off and buy it myself.....teaching that lesson really stuck with me. My kids will do the same. No handouts in my family.

My parents bought me my first car 2002 wrx. I'll be doing the same for my child. They should have fun while growing up. Although I did work as a teen cutting 5 different yards of grass and then some part time in high school and college, it was fun money for me and gas. I'll be giving hand outs if they behave and get a degree. My wife's side is the same way and most of our friends and family.

Jesus Christ. Do y'all know his situation? His son lives in Philly. Obviously he is not with his sons mother. Kind of hard to enforce a life lesson when you are a thousand miles away. He is just trying to make the best of the situation and get his son a decent cheap car. Cut the guy some damn slack.

Thanks Monte, Yes, my son is hundreds of miles away, and unfortunate things dont allow me to spend quality time or communicate very often with him. The least I can do is get him a car, so if one day he feels like he needs to get in his car, and get away, He has his father to come to. Some of you might understand, some of you may not.....
Foose, can you send me some pics? Its not my first choice, but sounds like there could be some potential here.

I've got a 2001 Jetta that's getting new rear shocks from the boys over at cps this week. I'm looking for a little more than 1k but let me know if you're interested.

It doesn't appear that anyone is giving him hell or anything. Some people just included their personal experience and what they would be doing with their child. I wish usmc gunner the best in finding a good car for his son.

Yeah. I'm not new to the interwebs. I know what they were doing.
