did some SC/NC/GA touristy stuff this weekend...

went into stumphouse tunnel

from the gazebo right in front of the tunnel

Highlands Smokehouse pork, brisket, corn pudding and mac&cheese.

we went up 28 into highlands, went to dry falls North of Highlands on 28 and then came back into town to check out Horse Cove rd... its awesome until you discover that everyone failed to mention the road turning to gravel. We then headed thru Cashiers on 64 on our way to Rosman to head down 178 to return home. left greenville at 9am and got back around 5.

Located about 7 miles northwest of Walhalla on Hyw 28, the 1,617 foot long Stumphouse Tunnel is an oddity. Started in 1852 to connect Charleston to Knoxville and eventually on to Cincinnati, the Civil War—and lack of funds—brought construction to a halt. While there were various efforts by the Blue Ridge Railroad to revive the tunnel, none of them came to pass and it stands today as a monument to the efforts of pre-Civil War engineering.
