Default Duramax Turbo Help/ Suggestions

So- I have an appointment set next month to take my truck and get the trans completely built and to have a bigger turbo put in at the same time in my DD 05 Duramax. Right now I have it down to get a Borg Warner 67.7 FMW turbo with a race cover and 5.4 inlet and I'm having the stock 1.1 exhaust housing swapped over to a .9 ar for better driveability.

Any other suggestions of what to run? I'm thinking about just stepping g it up to a S472 as I think it will give me room to grow in the future, but don't know how it will affect my overall driveability in the meantime.

Just rambling I guess...

im not v8 guy but when i see 62-67's on them its usually in twins... at thats pump gas/e85.. i would think your dirtymax is going to be blowing more hot air than boost...

allot of guys on hear are very knowledgeable with trucks and how to extract the most power efficiently... i would listen to them and not just take it to a shop with open ended promises.. unless you have an open checkbook...
the members hear may take your money but its done right, is a proven combo with quality parts and at a fair price...

i was all gung ho about a 04 crew cab duramax made a few calls to members hear and they told me to stay far away... truck i have now may be gas but i have had it 3 years and have only done a waterpump and im over 200k and the truck was one am ember told me to look at so yea...

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, and don't know if he called you or not after the last thread, but the only suggestions he got on that other thread was to take it to YOU for a transmission.

He wants to do more, and found a shop to do it, and he gets blasted for not taking recommendations on who to do the trans? Instead of bashing him and talking trash, why not suggest to him that you do the transmission and your sister shop CPS could work on the turbo work for him?

I seem to remember the same bashing going on when my build was taking place. I also seem to remember the same people being a part of it. Instead of getting all bent out of shape when someone uses someone other than you, why not just ask what else you can do to win their business?

Again, devil's advocate here. Carry on.

Damn- Sorry i haven't been back on to check for replies until today.

I'm merely only asking for opinions. I've tried calling Griffin Transmission as suggested multiple times on different days and never got an answer so i continued looking around. I want someone that i will be able to contact and get a hold of that is performing the work. Simple as that.

I found a shop (Diesel Addiction) that has a very good reputation with building Duramax specific trucks based out of North Carolina. I have been able to speak multiple times with the person that will be building my truck for 30+ minutes at a time for every phone conversation I've had with them. To me- that is a vitally important part of customer service and owning a business; and frankly how you win customers.

Believe me i am very open to suggestions. I value every ones opinion as it will in turn only help me down the road I'm going. From the research I've done and looking at the compressor/flow map the turbo seems that it would work very good in the operating parameters for which i plan to use it and has a very competitive price considering it already has a forged milled wheel and a race cover on it.

There were a few specialized things i wanted done during the installation of the turbo and building of the trans and i was unable to locate anyone local that had the capabilities to do it and after talking with the shop and speaking with other people that have had custom work done there they were extremely pleased. There are few things that i wanted done that i couldn't just buy "in a kit". A one stop shop seemed like it would be the best route to me to get done what i want done.

My biggest thing is the time to get it all done- i don't really have the time to bounce from shop to shop or wait for this part here and there, ETC. Sorry if i offended anyone- I just want to do what would seem best for me in the long run and makes the most sense.

From everything I've seen the non-vvt turbos are hands down better at keeping EGTs down and long term reliability as there are no extra moving parts inside. The biggest deciding factor was the ability to easily change the turbo internals to match future modifications to the truck and still be on a S400 framed charger that will hold up to the abuse better than a smaller s300 frame.

Vvt- I dislike stuck vanes, but like the exhaust brake function while towing. Ill never make anywhere north of 500hp, so I have no use going to something larger. I like how this turbo can make that kind of power with no other custom stuff, just swaps in place of the stock turbo and the air intake goes right back on. I think I will either go with this one or the stage 1 once I make a change since I only use the truck for towing/hauling.

That's an excellent turbo for that application- and probably the route I'd go given the choice of VVTs. I just want something different i guess.. lol

If i hauled anything else besides ass i would get another VVT solely due to the turbo braking capabilities. I currently have zero use for a turbo brake as the most i've ever hauled and will probably ever haul with the truck is Papabears' TBSS when it breaks again..

Just curious... what specialized things are they doing that others are not capable of? I'm not asking as a figure from CPS, but asking as a fellow duramax owner.

When you say "never got an answer" do you mean nobody picked up the phone at their shop when you called, or do you mean that you spoke with someone but didn't like what they had to say?
