http://www.s197-mustang.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5 ![]() 2009 East Coast S197 Mustang Shootout Announcement Five Guys Racing is pleased to announce the First Annual East Coast S197 Mustang Shootout at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, North Carolina, on Sunday, November 1, 2009. “The Rock” provides a centrally located, easily accessed facility on the Eastern seaboard complete with concessons, sponsor space, and nearby hotels. The event was originally intended to focus on the 4.0L and 4.6L naturally aspirated S197's with six index, side-by-side race classes. However, due to popular demand the forced induction crowd is invited to participate in six additional classes for added excitement. The facility will manage a Sportsman ladder, and racers will face a .5 Pro Tree, half second indexes, and no breakout rules in effect. The overall emphasis is on street cars you can live with and drive every day, so all cars must be tagged and registered, and cannot be gutted. Winners in each class will receive trophies. Other awards are also being developed for items such as "best 60 foot", "longest road trip to the event", etc. The following classes have been developed: Grudge Matches! I hope they dont "class" you when you enter the race......that kinda shoots your "grudge" match all to hell.

Good way to get a low turnout. Narrow down who can enter.

Im sure it would get a very good turn out, probably alot more then you'd think. There are gobs of s197's running around now...all you have to get is a solid 50+ cars around the southeast, that doesnt seem to hard

Are we talking about dyno racing or track racing?
Shop cars? Rumor has it off a 700hp Gt500 in the area, Never seen it at track and most likely will never. But we know how the lowcountry is though and racing mustangs.

I guess the only place you will find them is at the local car shows because they surely aren't at the track. you rarely see anything above an sn95 at the track anymore. well besides the car show queens that run only during Mustang Week.

I could have beat 90% of the field but I do give credit to most of them coming from out of town and not being able to pack tires with them in the trunk. |

Im sure they are a little few and far between around here...
Charleston isnt really a hot bed of racing like other places, most people dont want to void warranties on the $30k daily drivers, so you might only end up seeing them on special track days. I see alot more poeple setting them up for twisties then previous mustangs, and its fairly obvious given they are far better at it then the previous. And yes, stock they are turtles...CAI/Tune/4.10's/Dr's also run mid 12's...takes alot less to get them going then the previous mustangs unless you had an '03/04 cobra or gt500. I fall into the not voiding the warranty category, and it becomes easier to justify voiding if I made more money for repairs that racing commonly brings

The 03-04 Cobra's and gt 500's were in the 13's....... ![]() If you know the car you drive and know more than just what wax and tire shine works best, you don't need a stinkin warranty. Thats a true enthusiast.

then I guess im not a true enthusiast bc i dont feel like spending $2500 on a trans or $4000 on a new engine in a brand new car I just bought...thats probably the dumbest thing i've ever heard...no offense. I guess after building 2 engines and fighting a trans problem...I just got sick of driving broken cars

2. You take it to the stealership, they do shotty work, your warranty runs out and your in the same boat. 3. You learn how to fix it yourself, and fix it right......... it wolnt cost you thousands and if it breaks again you'll know how to fix it. Now you go buy crap or have someone do it for you and 90% of the time your back at no better than #2 If you buy a performance car and are scared to break it, you should just buy a Prius with an extended warranty and save yourself a ton of cash.
