We have about 25 or 30 cars sitting out back at Jones awaiting payment before they meet their maker. The execution of this program is a joke. Even if you fill out all of the paperwork correctly and verify that a customer meets all of the criteria, they still don't want to pay you.

From what I have read and the little that I understood is that they only had a few dozen people reviewing the paper work in Washington. I guess they didn't realize that the program was going to be so popular. So, now they are adding a bunch more people up there to review the paperwork and get things moving more quickly. I would say that the dealerships are being a little impatient, if anyone here has ever dealt with the government for getting anything done, can understand that it's not a QUICK process!!!! Our government is on the ball when we owe them money, but they are notorious for dragging their feet when they owe anyone else money.

Depends on what your consider on the ball. I had a past due tax bill back in 92, because of my ignorance of taxes on unemployment. They let me take 2 years to pay it off, and the penalties and interest were less then if I went and got a a loan with my non existence credit at 17.

I haven't got a tax return in a while since I always owe, but last time I did get a return it only took a few weeks to get.

These dealers have been waiting less than 2 months.

BTW the program is over on Monday, 2 months ahead of schedule. Seems to me the program was too successful.

Or they are cutting it off before they run out of money. In that case, as long as the dealers get their money the program was a success.

...but if you are right, and they have more clunkers then funds, I will say it was a good idea, but executed with poor planning.

Either way, we won't know for a few months if they shut it down early enough.
